Say not the Struggle nought AvailethBY ARTHUR HUGH CLOUGHSay not the struggle nought availeth, The labour and the wounds are vain, The enemy faints not, nor faileth, And as things have been they remain. If hopes were dupes, fears may be liars; It may be, in yon smoke concealed, Your comrades chase e'en now the fliers, And, but for you, possess the field. For while the tired waves, vainly breaking Seem here no painful inch to gain, Far back through creeks and inlets making, Comes silent, flooding in, the main. And not by eastern windows only, When daylight comes, comes in the light, In front the sun climbs slow, how slowly, But westward, look, the land is ebright.

thanks Sassy, glad to see the back of the snow, and it’s warmer. Hope you are both well. Look forward to the Spring, snowdrops and crocus. Leaving Christmas to my sons and their wives, they will do all the work this year, hoping we all keep well.love Iris x
feeling my age plus this bronchiectasis, worn out but hope between us I can stay at home. Miss Tony so much, but know I have so much to be grateful for. Love Iris x
bless you dear Iris, you're such a valued contributer to this lung health forum. I'd also like to thank you for your weekly poetry posts, they're wonderful and take us away from our worries for a while so regularly.
Have a warm festive season in the bosom of your lovely family - I'm sure Tony's spirit will be with you. Much love, Peege ××××
this is such a nice group of people and enjoy what little I can contribute. Bronchiectasis doesn’t help old age, I am finding life difficult but have to ignore the dust! Also leaving Christmas to my dear sons, getting into the loft is not a good idea now, and I will enjoy my sons Christmas decorations.,love Iris x
looking forward to your next poem Nana! Two more to go before the end of the year. Hope you’re all doing well, missing you a lot this time of year x
