Sometimes by Sheenagh Pugh

Sometimes things don’t go, after all,

From bad to worse. Some years, muscadel

Faces down frost; green thrives; the crops don’t fail,

Sometimes a man aims high, and all goes well.

A people sometimes will step back from war;

Elect an honest man; decide they care

Enough, that they can’t leave some stranger poor.

Some men become what they were born for.

Sometimes our best efforts do not go

Amiss; sometimes we do as we meant to.

The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow

That seemed hard frozen; may it happen to you.

Hi Sassy, life is a struggle these days, so easily get breathless, not doing any housework! My son and his wife and grandson and granddaughter are o ver here from Sydney, go back today. Be sad to see them go. Son who lives two doors away has had covid for most of their visit, got a clear result of test today. Hope you are both well.love Iris x

Sorry to hear of your struggles dear Iris but how lovely to have a visit from family in Sydney. Safe journey home to them all and glad your son has a negative covid result now. Rubbish timing though. Such a shame.

All ok here and ready to face whatever winter throws at us.

Take care, Carole xxx❤️👍

sad to be going Nana, but hopefully we will see you all again soon. The poem makes a good point, things do go well, and I’m sure we’ll be back over in no time. Loved being able to see you every day, we’re all going to miss you! Don’t stop posting your poems, we’ll all be watching from Australia xx

Thanks for lovely interesting poem, just received! I had looked earlier for your poem, no sign. Then at 7 o’clock got it with some other posts. It will have been great having family from Australia, so good can still message you when home. Glad son is nearly recovered from covid, it’s spreading lot again, hope us more vulnerable can avoid it. Love best wishes Jean xxx

Ps. Did anyone else first receive it at 18.57 this evening?

How moving, and also strangely consoling, that though more often our most cherished dreams will fail, sometimes they will succeed. As a former mentor used to say: round the corner of discouragement is success.

A good poem Iris that gives positive vibes knowing success is possible for all things. Sorry to hear you are feeling so breathless but glad you have had family around to help and even better having family over to stay from Australia. Hope you feel a bit better soon x

An interesting and optimistic poem- just what we need at the moment. I've never heard of the poet before- will have to look out for her. Sorry you're not too well. Glad your Australian family were able to visit, even though the visit must have seemed too short. Hope your other son makes a good recovery from the horrid covid. xxx Chris
