Hi all I am new to the site and would like some info on how long it takes Seretide 250 to work in the system so that you can feel the benefits.I have been using this for the past 2 weeks as advised by the doctor, 2 puffs twice a day using an aero chamber.I understand that we are all different but would like to know if this has or has not benefited anybody.
I have been perscribed Fostair 100/6 from the doctor along with lots of others in the past and feel no different so not sure how this would help with emphysema
This is my first post so not sure if it's in the right place.

Robbie, welcome to the forum. It's a great source of comfort, support & information from people with different lung conditions.
I took Seretide a few years ago for several years. My asthma took a nosedive & I became quite poorly 2009 -2014 with countles infections and several pneumonia. I did find that I'd been taking it wrongly for 3 years also with a spacer. It sounds simple or daft but its so easy to get in the wrong habit .
I believe many inhalers take up to 8 weeks to work effectively- as long as it's taken correctly - check out the makers website for correct method to practice, there are lots of YouTube demonstrations. Also thoroughly read the leaflet.
Everyone is a bit different, it's never one size fits all. I now use Fostair and for me its the best thing since the wheel.
I'm sure others with emphysema/ copd will be along with their experiences. Good luck, P
Hi Peege. Thanks for the reply , i will look to see if I am using the right technique as a first point of call and persevere for a few more weeks to see how things are then.
Hi and welcome Roobie. I had seretide a few years ago but it made me worse. I now have fostair which helped more. It can take a month for an inhaler to have it's full effect. Hope you get some benefit from it if not let your doctor know. It is often trial and error to find an inhaler that suits.
A while ago I was on Fostair NEXThaler with the powder stuff in it, after a couple of weeks or so I began to get more out of breath walking, to the point of nearly calling 999. Once home I was ready for my second dose of the stuff ,so once opened i decided to turn it upside on the kitchen counter to see how much powder was to be inhaled and nothing came out, after several times nothing, the chemist said that it was faulty. I was the given Fostair puffer and all went well,
The Seretide is a new one to me so let's see how things go.
hi and welcome. Check your technique is correct to get the best from your inhaler. I used sweeties for a while however it wasn’t the best for me so a doctor changed me to fostairnexthaler which works well. It takes a while for the drug to control your symptoms. X
Thanks Watergazer. The technique is fine so will see how things go for the next few weeks and go from there.
I tried the nexthaler, it worked fine to start with and then I was struggling so I changed to the Fostair puffer which was fine and now on Seretide , so let's see how things go.
Hi Roobie do you take ventolin beforehand and then seretide? I have emphysema and bronchietasis and asthma and I take 2 puffs ventolin then a couple of minutes later the seretide 2 puffs through a spacer twice a day and if I have an exacerbation up to 3 times a day. I was on 125mg strength for a few years before being upped to 250mg and it worked within a week.
Usually I wake up and take the seretide pretty much straight away as I thought that was the idea, due to lack of knowledge,
That will now change, i will be taking a small glasss of water first, then a few mins of breathing exercises then 2 puffs of Salubutomol. Give it 5 mins and then the Seretide and see how it goes.
Hi Roobie , you are in the right place welcome to the site . I have been taking Seretide 500 but used to take Seretide 250 at first. That was way back in 2008. I find you have to use it on a regular basis and it does not suit all. SO give it a good try before saying no . My grandson cant take it as he gets pnuemonia from it so we are all different . Admittedly I take two other inhalers . There are other inhalers that work better for some and only need taking once a day. So chat with your GP staff if not sure. It does take time to find the best for you.
I have tried 6 other different ones upto now and I think really that I was expecting a miracle cure with better lung capacity pretty much straight away. On gaining more info on sites like this with people's experiences I now know that the miracle will never happen.
I will persevere with the Seretide for a few weeks and see how things go from there.
I love fostair 100/6, a real lifesaver for me. However it took at least a month to become effective, during which I was hospitalised. So you have to be patient.
I have also just been told that my technique using it is not good enough. My gp based asthma nurse refused to discuss the correct technique, but a really good nurse at the hospital has just sorted me out.
So fostair is great, but technique taking it is important.
