Hi, I had covid for the 1st time back in Dec 2020, wasn't too bad, just a cold. I was then hit with it again in July 2022 and it put me in bed for for 2 days. Now, today, I'm positive again! only 3 month since the last time (so far just a scratchy throat). Im not immunocompromised or anything- Has anyone else had covid multiple times this frequent?

thanks

Perfectly fit and healthy mate of mine has had it three times in the last 12 months, plus twice before that: my understanding is it’s entirely possible to catch it multiple times as a result of the different variants that are about, and there is also evidence that omicron in particular doesn’t boost natural immunity against further omicron infections, so you can catch it more frequently than the other variants:

Conversely, I’m immunosuppressed to the point I’m automatically entitled to antivirals, and despite previously having confirmed close contact with two people that were positive on two different occasions, and repeatedly catching other viruses off my food shopping deliveries when we were in strict shielding, I only caught covid for the first time last month. I think some of it is an issue of luck, to be honest. That said, I’m continuing to wear a mask and practice strict hand hygiene when out and about, even if very few others seem to be anymore 🤷‍♂️

i have had it only once myself, but my sister has had it three times. She caught it in April 2020, probably at the supermarket as this was her only trip outside the house, off her husband in August 2021, and while in hospital in February 2022, so she has likely had all three main strains. She is immunosuppressed due to long-term chemotherapy, but has got through all three bouts with only mild symptoms. She has had all the vaccinations, but obviously she was unvaccinated when she first caught it in April 2020.

I hope your current bout will be not be troublesome!

Hi, I have had it twice. The first time in March 2020, just befre we went into lockdown. I caught it in one of two places: either from the coughing man in the bus who wasnt even covering his mouth, or the coughing and wheezing woman at Pulmonary Rehab who should have been sent home but instead was allowed to spread her germs to a room full of people with severe lung disease. The second time Jan 2022 was basically down to more social interaction after so long sheilding . I wasn't too bad the first time, but the second time I was properly poorly for a week. Thank goodness I was up to date with all my vaccinations and boosters. Both times I was left significantly incapacitated for several months after the infection. My breathing was much worse. The first time no one did a thing about it (we were in lockdown) the second time, my GP surgery were great and I got lots of support and encouragement from the chronic illnesses specialist nurse there. So yes, even with all the vaccinations, I got it again. I think the second time, without the vaccinations I'd have been hospitalised, but luckily I was able to manage it at home. If you are taking a long time to recover,do contact your GP and insist on an assessment as to what extra medication they can offer or just being supportive.
