Hi, I don't use a ventilator but wondered if it is worth contacting your supplier. There may well be different ones available that would suit you better.
Hi gilder60, do you mean you use a BiPAP or CPAP machine and the mask is marking your face? I use this hope2sleep.co.uk/cpap-moist... when I get affected, I had a breakout on nose a month ago and it cleared up within a couple of days it really soothes your skin.
You do have to be very careful about the cream you use, you can’t use anything with alcohol in it because it will degrade your mask cushion, the cream I have advised you to use is specially designed for BiPAP and CPAP mask users, I apply it after I have had a shower in the morning when needed, Kath Hope who is a member on this forum runs the Hope 2 Sleep charity who sell it.
Hi Patk1 yes i have always looked after my skin what kind of serum do you use, i think whats happened to my skin its because i have had the mask to tight trouble is if i loosen the mask air leaks any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks for replying x
i like Elizabeth grant serums and skincare but lots of brands do serums.layering products is best.oh leaks! Theyre hard work.i know.i had to change masks due to pressure on infected and painful sinuses.iid change yr skincare plus have word with ventilation team re mask x
hi Pat - I'm on a NIV machine with full face mask (I am a carbon retainer) unfortunately I also suffer with a deviated septum and internal injury due to a serious head on car crash many years ago.
This never really bothered me - except I breathed a lot through my mouth - which I think at 86 years old - led to the problem I now have.
I also have a problem using my machine all night due to this injury and love an answer. My consultant has put me down for an exploratory examination with a possible operation if found nessasary.
However, due to the waiting lists I do not expect to have anything done this side of my lifetime.
The biggest problem is my ears pop all night which is painful and annoying - I have adjusted it every way advised by the hospital "night nurses" but no success.
I take a couple of paracetamols before bed - play with my iPod and hope to fall asleep. Unfortunately I still breath through my mouth when asleep which does not help matters.
I would love for someone to come up with a solution before I go mad.
you poor thing,uv lot going on.ive rhinosinusitis and have had probs with full mask too altho ears didnt pop. I need course of antibiotics for sinus infection periodically.sometimes take a nasal decongestant to help clear sinuses+ breathe better( eg sudafed). It may help to try it as ears nose throat all connected.if ears still pop aft few days id consider antibiotics. I had change of mask which has been better 4me too.it fits under nose and ovrr mouth, still has the (damned) straps but much less pressure on face + sinuses.its so muvh comfier. I do hope these suggestions maybe of help to u.its hard enough with niv. X
Hi gilder. I use a cpap machine and really couldn't adapt to the mask. I tried all different types and developed a ridge across the bridge of my nose. In the end the nurse suggested nose cushions which fit just inside your nostrils. They are attached to straps that basically hold them in place. So no mask required. The airflow can dry out your skin. I have started using Revolution hyaluronic acid serum first all over face followed by a decent moisturiser and it seems to help keep my skin in fair condition.
I use a bi-pap for 10 x hours per night and the first mask they gave me left lots of marks and my nose was very sore. I looked around on the internet and made some enquires with Phillips about their 'Dream wear' range and ended up buying one of their masks. it doesnt go over the nose at all and is very comfortable. Then talking with my bi-pap nurse she told me that I can have the 'Dream wear' on the NHS, they don't tell you about it, so its always worth asking and it may solve your problem.
