How do I unsubscribe from this newsletter? I see a lot of posts but nothing that refers to health issues, and when they do, they're not informative. Sunsets and gardens are nice but not relevant.

Thanks.....

Well it’s a shame you feel like that. There are some very good knowledgeable people on this site and we certainly do discuss various lung conditions. To leave group just go to top of page and click on tick ✔️ that will let you leave group.

Hello, I'm sorry you feel this way but I would like to point out that mental health and well being are all part of maintaining good health. Like many others on the forum i have a number of health issues. But I really enjoy and appreciate seeing the lovely photos of gardens, animals, pets, landscape and sunsets that members post. They make me smile and lift my spirits. As a result my health conditions are forgotten for a short while. Many members are unable to get out and about and spend a lot of time indoors. Seeing areas of the countryside in this simple way can give a glimpse of how beautiful our British Isles really is. It can also prompt happier times remembering a forgotten holiday spent with a loved one for example. So, please, think again before you decide to leave. This health forum has developed over a number of years and besides offering the opportunity to ask questions about health issues it also includes many other important things... friendship understanding, a support network advice and a wealth of first hand knowledge.

Well I read this and I resubscribed. When I first tried to get in, it said contact an admin, but I had no problems. I didn't see it that way and I apologize. Maybe I'll post some photos LOL. Thanks all.

Have you thought about changing your email preferences? If you are getting regular notifications on your email you can change that through "settings" I think. That way you can check in if and when you want to ask a question that might help your health and avoid seeing the other updates that you don't feel are pertinent to your situation? Just an idea.

Ergendl profile image

Yes, change your email preferences, and then just choose posts in the subjects that interest you, such as COPD or Exercise - on my laptop the topics are listed on the right hand side.

Even though I can get out and about, and do have family and friends in the physical world, I still love coming here and hearing all about my virtual friends. If we only talked about our maladies, this would be a rather sad and gloomy place much of the time. Instead, we have a lot of fun and laughter too. This place helped me become as well as I can be in my circumstances, but I keep coming back because it is a real, supportive community.

As I've told others, I totally misunderstood and apologize. Now I get it and you're all a great bunch. Thank you so much.

Sometimes it's best not to dwell on your health issues. We are a happy bunch on here and are always there to support everyone. Different people have different interests and its good to see what hobbies etc they have. If someone needs support on a lung condition we are always here for them. We cant give medical advice as not qualified , but can share our experiences. Quite a few of us have lots of this as lived with our conditions for many years. Laughter is the best medicine. I felt this way when I joined the forum. As time goes by,I appreciate the comradeship element of this forum.

I’m in the 4th year of my diagnosis,it’s good to know that I have somewhere to come for support and information.people on the forum are at different stages of illness,so we support each other.

If there is something you need to know post a question, usually someone will get back to you.

I'm glad you've changed your mind. I have learnt a lot about my condition since I joined this group, not just as it is now, but to look out for signs that it might be changing. I've also learnt a lot about other people's conditions, which can't be a bad thing. As for the lighter side of the forum, it kept me going during lockdown and I still enjoy reading my forum friends' posts. Look forward to seeing some of your pics. xxx

We're all patients here doing our best most of us like to support others particularly newly diagnosed people, with whatever knowledge and experience we have with our different lung diseases of varying levels from mild to severe. When I first joined in March 2013 I was quite poorly, it was from a few members here who gave me the knowledge to improve health & get the best out of our British NHS (free National Health Service which is on it's knees right now).

There are some extremely knowledgeable patients here who pass on their knowledge & support whilst being very poorly themselves.

The forum evolves, at the moment it's fairly quiet and I can totally understand if new people look in & think wtf? is this a lung forum. Personally I don't read all posters & skim over them. I have to remind myself not to be judgmental, that some people have mental health issues as well as dodgy lungs.

Quite a few are housebound & appreciate a peep at others lives, pets, gardens etc. particularly at weekends when it's quiet & lonely.

If you have a particular health issue don't hesitate to ask or put a relevant word in the search bar to see old posts & replies on the subject.

I have some restrictions on my settings so the phone isn't constantly pinging, click on your avatar to adjust yours - politics, horrendous inflation & the cost of living in our countries are a worry (understatement) at the moment so be warned!

What part of America are you in slram?

If you change your email preferences you wont see the daily posts, or you can just ignore them and dont read any. Instead use the search box for what interests you. Other than that use the tick box and leave the site.

I agree with everything posted. As widow living alone I’m busy (Nebulising twice daily then disinfecting equipment, followed by postural drainage takes lot of time,) I don’t have time some days to read posts, but try to catch up when can! I was born with rare condition,PCD, and I’m also on that forum, but this one is more interesting and informative, long may it continue. Jean x

Glad you changed your mind this forum has helped me no end I only post if I can help with something I have experienced but it’s really good to know that you are not alone I have COPD and I think it’s really hard to explain that if the sky is clouded over I can’t breathe if the heating or AC is high I can’t breathe but being part of this forum I know it affects all of us and makes it easier to know I’m not alone and we don’t want to keep moaning about our problems nothing worse so it’s better we share the things that give us joy take care x

Hi Siram and welcome. When I first joined the site I used the search field a lot to find out if there were any posts about my particular problem. Got a lot of information that way but over time you begin to get to know people and their issues both relevant and not. I am more of a responder than poster. But you can dip in and dip out as you prefer. Essentially we are here and if we can help we do.

I think it sometimes takes a while to find your way a group like this. Some of us have been in the group for years and have got to know each other online so there is banter and joking, nice photos, memories shared along with information about a range of lung conditions and treatments as, between us all, we have a great deal of experience. But every new member in the group brings fresh experiences, stories and information, and all are welcome.

It can be tedious to only talk about our illnesses or disabilities but uplifting to hear that someone who has been struggling has had a lovely day out or had good news about their scan, for example. We have a laugh about things to raise our spirits and give the downhearted something to think about and, if it gives them a chuckle, that can only be a good thing.

I've had my ups and downs since joining and people have been as helpful and supportive as they can be. It's amazing how people overcome daily living difficulties and are willing to share their experiences with others in order to make the other person's life easier.

I remember one day posting that I'd nearly come a cropper drying my feet by resting them one at a time the loo seat and losing my balance! Suggestions came thick and fast about how I could dry my feet in a safer way. It seems a minor thing, and something I should have been able to sort out for myself, if my head had been in the right place at the time. But along they came, the lovely people on here, with helpful ideas and funny quips. It was fun reading the posts and I learned a lot as well as laughing. I haven't fallen over drying my feet since!!

Sometimes when you have a chronic health condition, you may not be able to see the wood for the trees and to have a safe place like this to post even the daftest question without being drummed out of town is wonderful.

I do hope you'll stay with us now - at least for a while - so that you can start to follow the 'themes' and humour as well as get any information you need to help you in your daily life.

xx Moy

Glad you’ve decided to join and stay with the group as we all have very serious lung issues/ disease on here and I’m sure I like most people think about that every day. However we also like to try and lift each other’s spirits with a little humour and everyday niceties as well as passing on experiences and knowledge. Hope you are well today? Cx

Oh God. Prayers........I see Keytruda here in the US is the best treatment and doesn't make you sick like chemo.

in reply toslram

I refused chemo and radiotherapy I lost both grandparents my mother and her brother my uncle all to cancer, unfortunately with small cell it spreads mine as become aggressive and I have tumours on my kidneys and one on the brain , firstly my senses will shut down then organs stop functioning . Tough to face alone but I have the family here so I get support and help from the family on this site , I get nothing from the Greeks and I can't fly back to the UK either 😂😂 visious circle 👍🏼👍🏼

Have you researched Keytruda? My cousin was given 3-6 months to live with an aggressive, rare cancer called merkel's and that treatment gave her 4 years. It doesn't make you sick and it attacks it anywhere in the body. please do that, You are way too young. And talented.

in reply toslram

I thank you for your kind words I will do some research and speak with my oncologist here and see if it's available for use here in Greece . There's not much of anything here on the island I'm on everything is on mainland.
