If anyone took offence I apologise , I just assumed quite wrongly that everyone would get the big early 1970s hit by Jimmy cliff I can see clearly now.

It brought back high school memories. I’m 65. Graduated 1975. I love trying and make people laugh. Friday at my Dr appointment I was told there are some studies showing taking benzos too long may cause dementia. Dr wants me to slowly taper off. So I told my son “well if I go to the bathroom and wipe my armpit….🤣😂He thought it not ladylike, however laughed!

I can see Claire Lee , Now that Lorraine has gone .

Ha…..took my ages to twig on, I should have realised earlier.

I Can See Clearly Now was one of the songs on my Driving Down the Motorway cassette tape selection. Was being the word , I erased the tape by mistake and my days of driving down the motorway are long gone .

Still listen to the video on you tube and still remember the words.

He ( Jimmy cliff) had a few hits , you can get it if you really want , many rivers to cross etc etc

I thought he sang “Baby it’s a Wild World “ but hubby's not sure and he’s usually better than me on music 🤔

soulboy118 profile image
soulboy118 in reply toThepainterswife

Maxi priest sang that , but that was another classic track

Thepainterswife profile image
Thepainterswife in reply tosoulboy118

I googled it and apparently Jimmy Cliff did sing it but hubby thought it was Cat Stevens , who it seems did record it and actually wrote it - so that’s 3 artists at least 😂. It seems to me whenever a song from the 60’s - 70’s comes up there always seem to be multiple cover versions or the original was made in the 50’s 😵‍💫

soulboy118 profile image
soulboy118 in reply toThepainterswife

Lots of songs are remixes of originals , a good song is a good song though

Hahaha - absolutely no need to apologize. It was funny, as indeed was my taking it seriously.

🤣🤣🤣

I was fully in agreement with you. Till I read further on and the penny dropped 😂😂😂😂 I put it down to my brain processing things takes a little longer these days 😂😂😂😂xx

Hi thereI saw Jimmy Cliff live at camp Bestival a few years ago.

Danced like no one was watching, especially to that great song!

And how apposite for yesterday - I got caught in the rain and looked like I was in a wet T shirt competition- the song ‘looking at the rain’ by Gordon Lightfoot immediately started playing in my head and is still there this morning.

soulboy118 in reply toHellodolly

Jimmy produced some great tracks , I love his too many rivers to cross track , so soulful .

Hellodolly profile image
Hellodolly in reply tosoulboy118

Adore that song!

soulboy118 profile image
soulboy118 in reply toHellodolly

Never heard anyone sing it better and a few have tried, I once heard Tom Jones singing some gladys knight songs , lol it was embarrassing.

Hellodolly in reply tosoulboy118

It’s so interesting hearing different versions of one song.My son and I like to discuss who sings ‘send in the clowns’ best. There are so many renditions. I like Barbara Streisand - but we are veering way off the original post now!!

I love Wild World. One of my all time favourites. In fact after your post I put Jimmy Cliff songs on YouTube while I was ironing . The 70s is my era. Can't dance like I used to but I can remember.

soulboy118 profile image
soulboy118 in reply toBiofreak

I'm glad I brought a little happy memory and a dance into your life , 70s is my era for music as well ( with 60s Motown and soul music) Have a good day BF.

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply tosoulboy118

Will do and you SB. My taste in music is eclectic just like the 70s and I knew by your name that you were probably a soulie. I love Motown and Northern Soul because I loved dancing. So "Keep the Faith" soulboy. 😄

soulboy118 profile image
soulboy118 in reply toBiofreak

I still go to nsoul events around Wigan and the nw of England when I can , lots of venues and interest still in that scene .

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply tosoulboy118

Aaah Wigan Casino! Went quite a few times in my youth and went to the Northern Soul event at the Printworks in Manchester before the pandemic. Still a lot of interest there.

Who Jimmy Cliff? I'm old, old and as far as I'm concerned pop died when the Beatles broke up. (Anyone remember Neil in 'the Young Ones'? 'Wow! Have the Beatles broke up?')

Ha! ha! Just makes one realise how social media can inadvertently get peoples backs up in strange ways! I read it out to my husband who got the lyrics instantly! (I didn’t, some are more musical I guess, brilliant 70’s song. Made me look it up on you tube to hear it again!) x

soulboy118 profile image

Just shows how even jokes are offensive to people these days but it wont out me off , say hi and well done to your hubby

battison profile image
battison

I s’pose it can also depend on what mood you’re in when you read things like someone said? I gave up on fb when some peoples’ views irritated me… We forget how important music is? Transformative, memory triggering..I’m sure you’ve got a lot of folk suddenly finding their music again 🙂

soulboy118 profile image
soulboy118 in reply tobattison

Music is wonderful , I can remember incidents in certain years through music ( I can even associate ex girlfriends through certain sings) music is wonderful for the memory and well being , it touches our souls and it makes us sick lol
