I would like to purchase a used/reconditioned Inogen One G4 oxygen concentrator. I want to improve my mobility and this machine is the lightest one, that i know. Its difficult trying to get back on your feet carry an extra 7 pound machine when you have a lung condition

Hi meg167, what oxygen flow do you need for walking, G4 only goes up to 3 and the battery life is only 2 and a half hours on setting 3 with the larger 8 cell battery?
If that is fine for your needs I can highly recommend Intermedical, they usually sell reconditioned machines with a warranty, but don’t seem to have any stock at the moment, you could also try oxygendirect that is another company I have used.

Hello IanThank you for replying and the information. I can walk with level 2 or 3 and i don't mind the short battery life as right now i can only walk a very short distance. Im thinking this would help me in the interim and as my walking improves and i get stronger, i could get something with a longer battery life. Thank you again, i will keep checking these companies
Hi! If you’re in the UK your oxygen provider should supply what you need to get you out and about. You shouldn’t have to buy your own equipment. Tell them what you want, you might have to stamp your feet a bit but you’ll get what suits you best. Tell them your current method when mobile is affecting your life and stopping you doing what you’d like to be doing. Good luck. Joy x
Thank you Joy. Believe me I've tried speaking and writing to GP, consultant,CCG and Air liquide the oxygen supplier. The oxygen supplier do not stock the G4 as it's not cost effective for them. I think our quality of life is not the priority. I'm now at the stage of requesting the consultant to apply for specific funding from the CQ C, but I'm not convinced she cares enough to advocate for me. So I've decided that if i want to ever leave my house, i have to try to get a used one as the new one is so expensive. 3 years stranded indoors is driving me mad. Thank you for your response Joy.
I’m covered by Air Liquide too and find their driver to be excellent and very knowledgeable, he lets me know what’s available. I know they have a lightweight portable Imogen at present, not sure which one. I’d push your nurse harder for what you want. Tell them they’re affecting your life. (Stopping you going out etc). Don’t give up. These things are there to make our lives better and we certainly need all the help we can get. Good luck. Joy x.

Don’t give in, I didn’t and i got all I asked for. I went through the oxygen nurse at my hospital though, she’s my main contact. I stamped my feet, didn’t give in, cried too! Told them they were affecting my way of life. Maybe set your sights a bit lower and ask for anything, small, portable and rechargeable. I wish you good luck and hope you get what you need. Joy x
Sorry to keep on but it’s nothing to do with Air Liquide. They only fulfil the prescription supplied by your oxygen nurse and they have to fulfil it. Oxygen nurse is your port of call to get the equipment you need/want. Joy x.
Hello JoySorry to hear you are in hospital. Hope you are doing well and will be home soon. Unfortunately, Air Liquide carries a particular range of oxygen machines and the respiratory nurse can only order within that range. Some people are given the portable machines more readily than others but the highest one that Air Liquide has is the G3 and G5 which both weigh around 6.5 pounds with the longer life battery. I don't think enough consideration is given to the fact that this is quite heavy for some of us, particularly when you have a flare up and are feeling quite weak. Anyhow you get well soon.
It all depends on your 02 prescription and the contract that the local CCG has with the oxygen provider. Anything outside of that which fits your prescription you will have to pay for yourself.

What is provided/commissioned by the CCG should be based on patient needs, not on the oxygen company's profit margin. Although only a small number of people will need a smaller lighter POC, this should be available. Otherwise these people have their treatment and quality of life compromised, if they cannot afford £2-3K to purchase their own machines. After all, oxygen is part of the medication prescribed and should be available to all in a manageable way.
Hi Meg, I appreciate I have joined this thread late but can you help me understand exactly what it is you need from your oxygen equipment and what is your 02 prescription. From what I read I take it that you want to get fitter and need 02 to do that ?
I am asking because I have been using oxygen for 6 years and have done a lot offer that time to keep fit and exercise regularly.

Hi Paulinethe issue is that i feel that i am unable to get back on my feet because my portable oxygen concentrator is too heavy for me to manage. I am trying to source a smaller lighter one; the Inogen G4, to enable me to do that. My oxygen supplier Air Liquide does not supply this so i am trying to purchase one
Ok Meg, so which POC do you have now ? Is it an Inogen One G3 ? It is a tricky thing isn’t it ?Have you thought of getting a trolley for your current one ? I used to have an Inogen One G 3 and found the across the shoulder bag far too uncomfortable so I bought a back pack for it which was much more comfortable.

Thank you Pasquino. I have never heard of these brands. The first one does not appear to be available any longer. But the 2nd one seems very interesting. i will certainly look into the availability as it sounds ideal. This is the type equipment that should be readily available from oxygen suppliers. Thanks again
To be honest the second seems too good to be true....btw I called the company and they sounded genuine but the reviews are not, buyer beware!Now the phone line is "under repair" and the email I sent them asking if it was possible to buy in person had no reply....
Otherwise you can buy the first one on Amazon ; you will pay an highest price but consider also that the delivery takes few days and in case of problem you will deal with a British seller

Hi PasquinoIt seems that the KKTECT are not recommended for medical use and the better ones are very similar in weight to the standard ones. Just curious, have you tried getting a smaller machine through the NHS?
in reality is not the fact of not being recommended , but the fact that those cheap concentrators at the best can give only ONE liter of oxygen at 90% per minute which is good only as a palliative, therefore could be good only as intended for little help.Whereas an expensive portable will cost you around 2 grand but will give you a continuous flow of more liters , but the working principles are exactly the same.
In my case, for example doctors prescribed me one liter 24h and 2 liter (continuous) on exercise or outdoor.
But I tried 1 liter outdoor and is not the best but helps a bit ....the oxigen cylinder is better in terms of delivery , but is heavy and on 2 liters lasts not more than one hour 1/2 .
If you need more than one liter continuous flow better use the cylinder or be prepared to spend more .
Same story for home use...a bigger machine will last longer ....
