Unusual photo with the sea as a backdrop. Are those cranes lifting and putting into place, the partitioning walls etc. I think I could watch that all day providing the sea was in the background!

β€’ in reply toGreenthorn

No it's pumping concrete into shuttering each section as metal rods coming out top the roof

Fascinating. I could still watch!

β€’ in reply toGreenthorn

It's crazy how quickly a whole house with all the dividing walls for each room go in then the roof . That's all done in a few days then electric and water supplies go in , followed by windows and doors. Fully done apart from decoration and the usual cupboard and units fitted along with marble flooring tiles in a week. And all earthquake proof

I saw these two buildings erected in 2007 six properties all three bedroom.

Built in three weeks in 2007 quicker than Barrett and whimpy

Is the tax system still that you don't pay a certain tax / fee until the house is finished and that the house isn't finished if there are still rods coming out of the top floor? I was told that when saw so many unfinished houses,

β€’ in reply toJaybird19

Oh yes if it has a tiled roof you get taxed πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ but main reason for the rods is to build a property on top for your child

Amazing! Our house took 8 months to build!

β€’ in reply todunnellon

Old house's around 1800s built to last in the UK. New builds go up pretty quick but always seem to have faults and no character like boxes within boxes. Always liked the older house's. Always felt homely if that makes sense

Yes, it does. We've built 2 homes from the ground up, both designed by us, not the builders, so a lot of our concerns and character are in the designs. Older homes and homes like ours were built on a more personal level. It's going to hurt when we downsize from this home. We won't be building another. Such is life!

β€’ in reply todunnellon

Yes I agree you put your heart into getting your personality into the building I can relate to that . I always feel that the new housing complexes built today seem soulless but it will seriously pull on the heartstring when you downsize

This really reminds me of when we had a house built in Crete. We used to call the cement pourer the elephant. Our house was started in October and we finally moved in August. The last month we were waiting for the electricity to be connected. We had 10 happy years living in Crete.

β€’ in reply toLizPat30

Crete was hammered last year with earthquakes and fires but it will never lose its appeal

Yes Crete is very beautiful. But yes like you were saying in a post the other day, earthquakes were frequent and they became part of normal life. But the first time we experienced a quake we actually saw the road move, I can remember it clearly.

β€’ in reply toLizPat30

The first time you experience a good quake you never forget and you do tend to accept it as part of every day.
