Shanklin Old Town

Will be returning home tomorrow after 5 days in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight. I took this picture of the old town yesterday and the beautiful buildings around. Weather has been wonderful and the Pulmonary rehab must have helped because I have managed the gradual hills ok without using my Sabutamol inhaler. Hope you all enjoyed the weekend. Brian

Looks lovely Brian and glad you had a good holiday. I have just returned from a lovely week with my daughter in Tenerife and must admit my calves were really sore with all the walking especially hills, think I am out of practice x

Oh how lovely yes it's like everything if you don't use it. You loose it so they say. Brian

Great photo of one of my favourite places.Did you try that pink old tea shop?

I went for a lovely cream tea with Prosecco there.

There are fairies at the end of the garden round the back. Sounds like you had a lovely time. 😊

No I didn't. There was far too many places to try and with it being hot. I preferred a cold drink so a pint of lager it was. Brian

Thanks for posting Brian. I am reminded of many holidays spent on the Isle of Wight, Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor in the late 60's and 1970's . At the time I worked for Freddie Laker and formed friendships with many staff, taking cheap flights abroad. One pal was Roy who had Kyphosis, a near 90 degree curvature of the spine. After he and I had left the airline (British United Airways) he and I would visit the IOW for a week or more, drinking in bars, sunbathing and playing the many putting courses in fierce competition with each other. We stayed more in Ventnor, at a lovely hotel run by a Greek/Cypriot who organised games in the evening for his guests. Roy was a great sports lover and played for his local cricket team, taking many wickets in a season - he was a great spin bowler, despite his low height.

Before I kick the bucket, I'd like to visit Ventnor again. Thanks for posting and reminding me of some great memories . David

I hope you do also. Its a relaxing place to unwind. I go with a coach company who has a hotel on the island in Shanklin called Daishs holidays and they are excellent value for money and half board breaks with Entertainment every night as well. Brian
