I get them too, 20 years post menopause. My gp said for some women they never stop but I have a lung condition with yellow phlegm and I wonder if living with a low grade infection causes them.

My asthma nurse said some of her patients still need hrt into their 70s .I am on montelukast for airways and after they get into my system I have terrible hot flushes,I also take 1mg hrt too but am 62yrs old

Would it be easier to use a fan when you're too hot. Just a suggestion Brian

I do but it doesn't work quite like that when not having a flush the fan makes me to cold I put an extra layer on and I'm flushing again so I take the extra layer off by then I'm exhausted and cold and have to switch the fan off. Flushing is not like just being to hot, Mags

The ex landlord of our local used to say *cardigan off when someone went hot ,then cold.

Yes that sounds right but when you are 75 and have fatigue due to a health condition it gets very wearing, some days the fatigue is so bad it is an effort to do anything. Mags

I had a problem free menopause 30 years ago but over the last year I have been having flushes in the evenings. I put it down to being on oxygen but I don't really know.

I have had hot flushes from the age of 38 I am now almost 70 and they never stop for some women, i am one of them. I was on hrt for 10 years and was a relief but had to come of when lumps started in my breast. Have tried it since but had problems with bruising . I would ask your doctor why you have suddenly started with these at your age x

Hi I still get the odd hot flush many years later. I believe some women still do. I also found since the change my temperature control has gone wonky and I can't stand too much heat. I can suddenly become very hot but it's all over and not just a flush.

Morning, interesting post about hot flushes & reliving knowing I’m not the only person suffering.I started the menopause at 50, put on HRT for 10 years which helped greatly sadly advised to come off them.

After a few years the hot flushes started I put them down to all the medication I’m on…Interesting reading BOxermad’s thoughts on montelukas as I’m on these tablets & now trying to think if the flushes started when put on this medication.

Anyway thanks for everyone’s replies it’s a relief knowing there are others still suffering…by the way I’m 77 this coming July.

Hi and welcome, I had hrt at 31yrs old after a hysterectomy, marvelous until at 61 the doctor refused to give any more. After a couple of years of melting day and night I tried a natural remedy called Pueraria gold plus. Its a natural herb from Thailand apparently. I have been taking it for 2 yrs now with no side effects. No more hot flushes or hair loss, Whilst I recommend it no clinical trials have been conducted but I reckoned it had to be safer than hrt. Maybe worth checking out.

P.s I am 70yrs old now with emphysema and periperal artery disease, ostioarthritis. I concluded quality of life was important too.

Can you please tell e where I may get this too. I’m wrapping up then taking it off all the time. I had a hysterectomy in my early thirties which put me straight into the change. I took HRTfor twenty something years but had to come off of it because of really bad migraines. So since 2006 I have suffered ever since with really hot flushes. When I get one my breathing gets bad and I’m puffing and blowing.

I get them online from herb wizard but there are other suppliers. Check with your doctor maybe first, my doctor (male) just smiled and said it was fine to take if I thought it would help!

I had hysterectomy, ovaries etc all removed and v quickly had saturating( literally) hot flushes.none of the hrt formulas worked for me.I read up on herbal remedies & found that black cohosh plus Angus castus worked quite well for me

I tried the black cahosh and it did nothing for me. I had a hysterectomy because of fibroids. I also tried eating Chickpeas as they say it’s a natural hormone. No effect at all. They wouldn’t do that in this day and age. I was I think 32 or 33. Much too early. That’s what they did then. I had the rest took away a year later as one of my ovaries swelled up to the size of a plum. I was then thrown straight into an awful amount of hot flushes. I wasn’t allowed to have hormone treatment for six weeks. It was the worst six weeks ever.

I get them occasionally. They seem to occur when I am more fatigued than usual- particularly when humidity higher.

I think it is the stress humidity puts on cardio and respiratory symptoms
