Bluebells

There is a small remnant of ancient woodland close to where I live and in the spring it’s carpeted with bluebells. There are wood anemones, too but they are normally still asleep when I walk early in the morning 😊 It’s a very peaceful spot as it’s hidden away and only reachable on foot, so other than local dog walkers, there are few visitors.

It looks to be quite level. I used to visit a bluebell wood quite near to where I live but it is on a hillside so beyond me now. I hope that you will be able to enjoy yours for many years to come x

I’m sorry to hear that CD. There is a hilly bit as well but fortunately I don’t have to attempt that if I don’t feel up to it.

I have never forgotten my first visit to a bluebell wood with my parents. It was magical! I will never forget the heady smell, the calm and wonder. Although I have visited many more since then it was that first visit that has remained a precious memory. Thank you for your lovely photo which took me back to that special day long ago.X

So magical and serene! We have similar hidden from sight woodland space. We’ve battled developers for3 years..last week they withdrew their planning application - hooray! Such beauty is so important for our physical and mental health. Especially early morning when the birds start their song. Fantastic photo.

I’m so delighted to hear you won that battle, battison. These little pockets of ancient woodland are so few and far between we must do whatever we can to protect them.

Good morning Irene. I see you had your laser treatment yesterday. I do hope it went well and not too uncomfortable and it has been successful, also that your eye has settled today. Take care xxx

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply toHollyBoyd

Thank you HollyBoyd. The first eye they did was ok but the other eye actually hurt, luckily they only gave me 5 shots of the laser so it wasnt too bad and they put so many drops in, I am not surprised my sight was cloudy yesterday but everything seems to have settled down today and feels fine. Fingers crossed I wont have to have it re done and all will be well on my check up x

I'm glad I came across this Irene, I've been wondering how you and your eyes were. It's a relief to know that all seems to be well and it must be a relief for you too. I hope the treatment is a success. Do let us know. Did you get any further with blood tests for GCA?

Sending love and a hug, Carole xxx

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply toCDPO16

Thank you Carole, I must admit to being petrified of having this done but pleased to say I behaved myself lol and the doctor was so lovely. My bloods were normal but I have an appointment on 13th with the rheumy doctor so will discuss with her then. The laser man yesterday agreed that something was wrong but was in addition to the narrow angle problem that is affecting the drainage and could be GCA, its a waiting game but am determined to get to the bottom of it all. I will put a post up when I know what it is. Thank you for your support, it means alot x

HollyBoyd profile image
HollyBoyd in reply toIzb1

Thank you for your update Irene and pleased your eye is feeling fine today. Let's hope that has completed the laser and your eyes need no more treatment. Best wishes for your ongoing appointments, will be thinking of you xxx 😊

Beautiful. There’s a wood not too far from where I live and like your photo it’s carpeted in bluebells and anemones. They were in flower when we passed in the car a couple of days ago. It brings back memories of when I was a child. I would have a seat on the back of my Fathers bicycle. Mum would have her bike and my two Sisters also had bicycles. We would walk into the woods and pick bunches of bluebells anemones primroses and violets. We would take them home and put them in water. The trouble was the anemones were dying as soon as you picked them. We had beautiful walks there and brought back dead wood for the fire. You never see people walking in there any more which is a shame.

Threecats profile image
Threecats in reply toMavary

The photo has certainly triggered a lot of memories in folk, Mavary. As you say, it’s a shame more people don’t walk in these woods much these days, although I must confess, from my own selfish standpoint I’m rather glad they don’t!

Mavary profile image
Mavary in reply toThreecats

I couldn’t do it anymore anyway. But I bet a lot of children would love it.

Did you see morning live today? They did an article on a bluebell wood that was being eaten by a muntjac, it looked just like your picture x

Threecats profile image
Threecats in reply toIzb1

I didn’t see that. There are deer in the wood but fortunately not muntjac!

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply toThreecats

They had different deer in the forest and didnt know what was eating the bluebells so set up a hide and it turned out it was the muntjac , strangely it isnt poisonous the them x
