Tummy problems
Hello Petrie I have that feeling sometimes, it can be uncomfortable at yes but it doesn't happen very often. Hope this makes you feel a little better, have a good evening and take care π Bernadette and Jack π xxxxxx π»π»π
Can happen if you have eaten a fairly big meal or feel bloated. There isn't enough room for your lungs to expand properly. Prior to lung disease none of us would have had the problem.
I would say it depends on what stage your COPD is at as to wether this caused by your lungs struggling to inflate because of an overfull stomach. It can also be caused by a problem with digestion or the digestive organs. Gallbladder attacks. Reflux and Oesophageal spasms can all make you feel like it is harder to breathe.
I do, rarely, I find if I stand up and move the front of my stomach, gently round, can help.
Hello PetrieAccording to Web Med tummy problems often go hand in hand with COPD.
That was certainly true for me. Soon after my diagnosis I started to have extreme bloating, acid reflux and diarrhoea which made my breathlessness much worse.
I was diagnosed with IBS and prescribed with various meds but nothing worked.
I gave up the IBS meds and with careful attention to my nutrition my tummy troubles have been in remission for almost a year now.
I still get occasional bloating but nothing as awful as before.
Hi, I have bronchiectasis and also have tummy problems. Always worse in the mornings when I wake up and find it hard to tell if its my lungs or tummy hurting. (probably both) Maybe it goes hand in hand with lung problems? I'm reluctant to tell GP as I don't fancy any more further invasive tests!!
If you have long lungs, over inflated diaphragm, it can affect your stomach, especially after eating. There are certain foods that make it worse - ones that produce gas, such as leeks, brussel sprouts etc. - make your stomach bloated and then it is harder to breathe. The advice is to avoid certain foods and eat smaller quantities, more often, to stop the stomach becoming bloated and putting pressure on the diaphragm. It is a very uncomfortable feeling!
Small meals work for me these days. If I get carried away and eat too much I feel breathless until the food has gone down.xx Moy
Yes me ... IBS .. diverticular disease blah blah ... I know exactly what you mean .. its been like that for years for me .. the bloating starts, causing pain in my stomach, giving me like a thudding in my head and ribs and stomach, and won't stop until I have my painkillers,, the bloating also gets worse depending on the clothes I'm wearing ... they start to feel tight and put pressure on my chest and stomach, I feel like my stomach rises to my lungs and pushes them up causing me to be breathless ...its awful ... it subsides a bit when I take my painkillers until all I want to wear is my nightie nice and loose and comfy ..
