Can anyone suggest some simple breathing and physical exercises to start my recovery from breathlessness?

I have emphysema but before a spell in hospital for an infection I could at least walk and do normal things albeit slowly. Now the slightest exertion renders me totally breathless. I would like to regain my previous standard, John

You can also go on YouTube and get some good tips and exercises for people with lung and breathlessness conditions. Hope this helps, have a lovely day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx

I have copd, bronch and asthma and in 2018 I was hospitalised for bilateral pneumonia, respiratory failure and was lucky to survive. So of course concerned to get back to where I was before I became so ill.

I spoke to the local respiratory physio who gave me a useful tip - apart from going very slowly, always alternate exercises for the upper body with those for the lower (walking etc). And take lots of rest. It is possible to get back to your former functioning but do it slowly over weeks - it wont happen straightaway.

I would ask my GP for a pulmonary rehab referral if I was you - they are fantastic at helping you get going again. Good luck :)

You could also join a singing for lung health group. The BLF has a list of UK ones and you can find the one nearest to you.
