Lovely colours and designs .My grandmother used to make them from all the bits of cast off clothes …..mainly men’s trousers by the colours she used.

The old flannel shirts were cut up for face cloths .

Thank you for your photos , we had a demonstration once at my craft group but I have never tried .

Hi, i love rag rugs and remember my grandmother making them. Yours is a lovely design. I have suggested learning how to make rag rugs to my craft group and hope they can find a tutor to teach us. Keep up the good work I'd hate to see these lovely crafts die out.

I do hoe you can find someone O taught myself it's very easy my problem not an artist so hard to come up with designs

No I used a ruler that I had in the shape of a triangle and drew around it.Just have to be careful to use the different colour.I use anything that will give an interesting shape.

Rag rugs were very popular during WW2 when you couldn’t buy carpets. We always had one in front of the fire.

It was our winter occupation in the evenings. Mind you, it was the 40s and we called it pegging a rug. Mum had a tub full of clippings from old coats etc. and we sat round the frame with whittled down clothes pegs so that the new rug was ready for Christmas.

My goodness that was a labour of love..I have a tool to do all the pulling. It's a whizz.I have seen antique tools,and they are very similar to mine

I was born in1943, the youngest of 3 brothers and a sister. My mother made sure that we were all able to carry out all household tasks including cooking, baking, sewing with needle and thread and treadle sewing machine, knitting and darning, painting and decorating. gardening. I started making peg-rugs when I was about 6 and really enjoyed it. By 11 I was darning my brother's R.A.F. socks and getting paid for it. I have always been grateful, as I have been able to turn my hands to most things
