Every 5 months

I have moderate copd and every 5 months I've noticed I become unwell, it starts with the breathlessness creeping upon me as I notice Im getting more breathless when doing things that I don't usually get breathless doing, like walking on the flat. Also the odd pain in my back. I start to take my emergency steroids starting with four for three days then 3 for 2 days then 1 for 2 days. I feel so much better on day 2 because I don't wait until its a full on exacerbation. I just don't know why it's every 5 months is anyone else like this? It's just my lungs getting inflamed but not sure the cause, it's just odd that it's every 5 months although I'm now ready for it so I don't get really ill. Maybe it's the change in the weather who knows.

Hi Jake,

Not sure why every 5 months, could be when the seasons change, when you have been exposed to bugs, some air born irritant that may occur specifically in your area. Temperature, humidity changes etc.

I am unsure about your method of taking the prednisolone, person your doctor has advised you to do that. The emergency pack should be take as prescribed, its usually on the label from the pharmacy.

I expect you will be notifying your doctor that you are taking your emergency pack in order that he can check with you your symptoms and so you can be prescribed a replacement emergency pack. You could also check on your dose of the ABs and Preds.

I have had that regime with Pred before, big dose of 8 to start then reducing dose by one a day until finished.

My exacerbations generally depend on the weather. Too hot, too cold or too wet! I can't imagine why every 5 months, I hope you get to the bottom of it

For me Every year in May my skin and airways react, I put it down to there is something in flower at that time producing a lot of pollen that is airborn. The other time for me is grass pollen time July / August. Also privet flower is another. Could be yours is something seasonal too.
