No I haven't banged my head π since the fires started I've not seen a star in the sky but tonight I can finally see some stars , I can still see an afterglow in the distance from mainland as tonight I'm not on my balcony I'm sat on my nextdoor neighbor roof which is four floors up so I have a fantastic view of the sea and all over the island . They said I can sit up their every night as long as I want so I'm looking at getting myself a telescope . Tonight I'm a happy chicken π
I see stars: No I haven't banged my... - Lung Conditions C...
I see stars
ππππ
I may sound mad but looking at the stars always brings peace to me right from being a kid , when I feel low I look to the stars and it changes everything . We all have our little kinks πΉπ€£πΉπ€£πΉπ€£
You donβt sound mad at all
Daveyβ¦ on the contrary considering all you have been through you sound remarkably sane! Have a lovely evening on your neighbours roof star watching. Iβm a wee bit envious! π
It's so peaceful up here no sound, mind you it is quiet up our end of the village the odd dog walker or lady coming from church , I can enjoy the sky and peace and if it wasn't for checking on my dad every hour I would happily sleep up here π€£π€£ but four flight of stairs every hour each way is a bit much I can do it once with a couple of stops π€£π€£π€£π€£
Have you taken a blanket up there with you or a cushion to lean against as you star gaze? π
Actually with your medical history please be very careful you donβt fall!!!
It's good up here there's a good barrier that's tall enough to stop me falling and I'm sat pretty much in the middle of the roof , there's even a BBQ up here so I can get a couple of steaks on the go an icepresso and and I'm sorted π€£π€£πΉ
How sweet the neighbors just brought me a hot chocolate and vanilla and some Greek salad up with fresh feta mmm I'm sorted I'm staying put πΉπΉπΉπΉπΉ
Lucky you! Great neighbours to have .π
Greeks are like that but it's lovely having all this I feel so grateful .π
π₯³
One thing I have learnt since being here a kindness shown to a Greek is never forgotten , the day I came here I walked up to my dad's suitcase in hand and our neighbor was having problems getting his car started but after five minutes I got it running for him and it's something simple that I would do for anyone but Greeks never forget .π
Thatβs good to hear Davey. Think Iβll move out there lol.
Lovely. In WW1 my grandfather fought on the Macedonian front. He caught yellow fever and was nursed back to health by a Greek man called Vasiliou. My grandfather told told Vasiliou that if he had a son he would be named after him, hence my father was called Basil.Enjoy your beautiful place and people.
I've left home for a couple of hours break , I'm breaking my own rules and come down to my local taverna for a frappa and to see my friends who I haven't seen since the beginning of covid , I have never had such a warm welcome in my life I've not been left alone , but even though everyone here as been jabbed they won't get to close to me for my peace of mind .
I love greek salad. How kind of them. I always found the Greek people very kind to me as a tourist. A traveller in olden times was always welcomed and they still do it. At least they did 30/ 40 years ago. When i was in a village I was given things like food and sometimes a flower if I was trying to photograph it and invited in for glass of water with the spoon of jam , do they still do that.? I used to go out early with my camera and to get the bread for breakfast. Lovely times. Lovely people and i feel so sorry for them in all these horrific fires. So it is not surprising that they are kind to you but especially as you helped them .
Keep writing Davey, you are bringing back memories of those happy times.
The marmalada is fantastic AA spoon with your coffee stop it being locked down for so long these are things I've missed , I'm going to have a chicken giros with cucumber yoghurt mmmm
I've got a sun lounger that was up here so I'm really comfortable and I don't have to worry about getting cold with the temperature in the 30s at night πΉπΉπ
Enjoy Dave. Outcome of your visit to the doctor not too bad. Hope the chest infection soon clears.
So do I must admit I have been feeling pretty rattly the past week or so , I did get anoyed with the doctor though, sat in his office and he lit a cigarette up and offered me one I explained that I stopped some years ago to help my lungs and he was decent enough to put his out and apologize .
Oh dear, most unexpected and rather thoughtless both to light up and to offer you one.At least you may be able to relax a little this evening watching the stars.
Yes but unlike English hospitals the smoking ban isn't supported and doctors do pretty much what they want just like in the police station here πΉ went to register here ages ago and the chief constable was sat feet up on desk with a cigarette on watching football πΉπΉ I'm enjoying my Greek salad and hot chocolate looking straight up what a view , I'm glowing πΉπΉπΉ
Lol thatβs quite surreal really as thereβs no way that would happen here! π
Great to see the stars Davey. How nice of your neighbour to let you use his roof. A telescope sounds like a great idea. Hope you soon see lots of stars. XxxπβοΈ
I've already got my friend on the case he has a site for unwanted gifts on the island so pretty local and he was almost certain he saw one so going to track one down for me he said it's an early birthday gift as it's my birthday soon . He's a good friend and he's helped me out a lot and every night he checks on me mind you I had to give him directions how to find me tonight π€£π€£π€£
Thatβs great, hope your friend can find one for you. An early birthday gift sounds just brilliant. Happy birthday when the day arrives. πππ₯° xxx
It's not till the 29th but thank you , it's my day off tomorrow morning sounds crazy day off but I have the morning off from my dad , a friend watches him so I get a break so I use the time to visit my mum's grave wash the headstone and remove any leaves and also pick the lemons from her tree which was planted when she was buried . βΊοΈβΊοΈβΊοΈ
Not too far off really. Itβs good to have a day off and nice to have a friend watch your dad. Graves always need tending and that lemon tree sounds wonderful. Your mum watches over it. ππ»πΌπΊ
My daughter's birthday too. I've booked a trip on the Flying Scotsman as a birthday treat.
I can remember seeing that train at Nuneaton railway station when I was a kid my grandfather shown me it as it was out for a run , the lovely age of steam , mind you not good for the environment now π but I really hope she enjoys the experience and a happy birthday to her from me ππππ
Thereβs a little bit of me that feels slightly envious, stars, proper Greek Salad, brings back many happy holiday memories both when I was young free and single and later as a family.
The Greeks are very friendly and never forget a kind act or a bad one!!
I do hope you are feeling better you do seem to be going through a rough time
Take care
J
Your right about that , ok I'm going through some bad stuff and it's only going to get worse so take what good happens each day π
Itβs great you can see the stars at last. Looking out at the stars is very calming and uplifting β¨
Yes and now I'm even closer to them , I checked on my dad and snook back up on the roof for half an hour , it's hard to stay away ππ it's so peaceful and relaxing I'm tracking the iss space station so when I get a telescope I can get a good look at it . I just feel different looking at them knowing that someone else somewhere else in the world is probably looking at the same thing as me. π«π«π«π«
No matter what you lose in life or have taken away from you you can always find peace just by looking up at the night sky no one can take that away from you .
Thatβs very true β¨ I think thersx going to be a meteor shower in the next few days. The Perseids maybe? Hopefully youβll be able to see it π«
There's a NASA site where you can check things like that that is how I find out when the space station is over Greece sometimes it comes over during the day so can't see it but it's a brilliant idea , I know sometimes you can see meteorite showers over the UK but you can't see them here but on odd occasion you can .. people probably think I'm a nut , but I've lost alot of things and people who filled my heart and made life worth living and this is how I find peace , so not a nut just sensitive . ππ₯΄
I'd be happy as Larry (who is Larry).... Being where you are just now...Although you have have your own health worries
And the stress of fires past while... Where you are just now on roof with the stars... I'd be at peace with the universe (OK I admit a bit jealous in nice way)
It's beautiful a light breeze clear sky full of stars nothing else matters . I'll be up here every night , on this sun lounger flask of coffee . Should have kept my mouth shut about quiet the damn donkey in the field behind the house across the road is braying like hell π π π
Lmao at donkey eww awww
Seriously I bought a telescope second hand (don't know much about technicalities of it)... But wow its wicked!!!.. Best skies I've viewed telescope through was Northumberland
Oh your as technical as me then I'm strictly point and look , my grandad had a telescope when I was a kid and on clear nights he took me into the garden to look at the stars sat in his old rickety deck chairs π I loved it and he said there's a star with my name I asked what he meant he said the star of David I was blown away as you are when your a kid . But since then the stars have always fascinated me . And no I don't think we are alone in the universe , just so long as ET leaves.my hot chocolate or coffee alone he is fine to visit πΉπΉπΉ
That's a wonderful memory, that's so personal to you.. Its lovely!
Psssst.... As for ET don't trust the donkey!!
Don't worry I will keep a close eye on it no probing here thank you π€£π€£π€£π€£π½π½π½
I love looking at the stars. Puts it all into perspective.
It's one of the few things that do in all honesty , it's one of the few things we haven't been able to screw up yet π€£π€£
Indeed! Wish I was somewhere where there wasn't so much light pollution.
Sounds wonderful. What a great neighbour too.
Too right you would be lucky to find a neighbor like that in the UK nowadays .
So pleased for you. I have been following your posts and thinking and praying for you all I can't imagine how horrific it is for all who have been through that. How do you manage to breath with all that smoke in the air I have trouble if my neighbour lights a barbeque. And then the aftermath oh it is terrible.take care. Mags
I have been double masking and not been out much but last night air quality was much better so was on neighbor roof enjoying the night air and my stars .
Sounds a perfect night after all the chaos. Enjoy more nights like this x
Now I have the baby monitor system working I don't need to keep going up and down I can stay put so peace and quiet every night πππππ
You enjoy your stars! Invest in a good telescope - our son had a fairly low budget one but even that showed up some amazing things that made us think how much more he could see with a slightly more powerful one. But then, I suppose you can keep thinking that and end up with something enormous. Whatever you go for, enjoy it!
Keep us posted if you see any little green men, won't you? xx Moy
So pleased youβre getting some pleasure after all the trauma youβve been through π€π€ Your positivityβs been a lesson to all of us , thanks for sharing and enjoy the stars, good food and company - everything anyone needs to get by ! βοΈ βοΈππ
As my grandmother always said a little positivity goes a long way and to share is Devin
Youβre grandmother was so right ! π
I used to say my gran was like a sage always had the answer to any problem and seemed to have a saying for everything ππ
I never knew my grandparents ( always a source of regret βΉοΈ) but my mum used to have her own sayings , mind you I didnβt always understand them as a child , a popular one was β youβre more of a hinderance than a help β I was about 30 before I realised what a hinderance was , although I figured it wasnβt anything good ππ€£π
I was lucky enough to have my grandparents they brought me up most of my life my real father was violent so I used to feel the rough end so safer with my grandparents
You were very lucky to have had them then , must be terrible to have abusive parent/s π’I would love to have had grandparents, sadly I was born when my parents were getting on and the grandparents had died but now I have 5 grandchildren and a great grandson so Iβve actually become the grandma I never had π
That's lovely , don't get me wrong my mum was a lovely lady and loved me so much and took me to my grandparents so I would be safe but she took the beatings until she got divorced and started a new life and I went back to my mum , unfortunately she passed away from cancer so I have no real family members left but I promised her if anything happened to her I would make sure my stepfather was ok. But when I got here I found he was suffering from dementia not too bad but enough so I have been looking after him for the past five years . I keep my promise , mind you I didn't have my marriage any more I was going through a divorce my ex wife commited adultery so I'm here doing my bit as best I can regardless to the fact my health condition as shot it π€£
Amazing youβve gone through so much and can still smile , you must have a beautiful soul π Keep up the good work , youβre an inspiration- and you have the stars ,good friends and the taverna βοΈπΊπΊ π
My grandparents were good roll models and taught me through adversity comes strength
Still got lots to go yet and unfortunately out here no palative care and not much in line of support but my friends help where they can , was discussing funeral arrangements today and I said about going back to UK for cremation there was a definite no apparently I'm Greek I'm from the village and my body will stay in the village my best friend told me directly today and he will deal with everything .
Thatβs amazing , how lovely to have such good friends π but letβs hope no one will be making arrangements for some time yet !!! ππ
Im just happy to look at my stars π
Hooray. Star gazing is a sign of sanity not madness. Glad you can do it again- and in luxury! The best stars in Essex always come on frosty winter's nights when it's too cold for a lungie to be out for very long. Grr.
The best time here is during the summer and autumn the skies are totally clear not a wisp of a cloud , and of course the moon is lower down and it's fantastic when it's a full moon and low in the sky you can see every crater
Wow u will have a view up there!! I'm glad the sky is clear enough to see yr stars.i hope yr breathings improved, too.i heard on news y'day that 1 of the islands is having fires too.so awful.Hope u managed to sleep beta now local fires have settled x
Evia is on fire mainland still on the go and were still on alert here but all's good air quality as improved so much . Still a worry but best not to stress
I imagine it was gd 2 chat + have such a warm welcome at taverna. Stay safe x
So glad the air has cleared enough for you to see the stars Davey and how kind of your neighbour to let you use their balcony. Lets hope the fires die down now and give you al, a little peace x
I'm not on their balcony I'm on the roof of the building ππ they use it to dry washing but it is a huge area so me on a sun lounger hardly takes up any space ππ π€π€π€ things need to get stopped with the fires but it's not a quick job
I can imagine what normally would be a wonderful sight. I hope the smoke hasn't affected your breathing π.
My chest as definitely been tighter and I've been coughing more than usual but I deal with it in my normal fashion I don't mind so it doesn't matter π I'm already on antibiotics for an infection and also steroids so hopefully this will pass , apparently the carbon monoxide and dioxide levels increased on the island as it as on mainland but that can be expected when you see the quantity of wood etc being burnt.
I would imagine that the carbon monoxide and dioxide levels have increased, just take more care.
That sounds like fun Davey, enjoy your star gazing β¨ β¨JaxπΆ
Oh I intend to πππ apart from the fact it's cooler up on the roof and definitely nearer the sky it's the peace and quiet I love you can lose yourself .
Sounds ideal, especially after all those smokey days and nights! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
Now I've got my baby monitor set up and tested I can spend as much time as I want at night on the roof , I'm going to make a couple of frappa up tonight so I can totally chill
Enjoy x
I'm on my way up to the roof as I type π€£π€£ apple pie and frappa in hand well in a carrier bag and ready to be abducted by aliens green donkeys or green chickens π€£π€£ I'm too happy to care π€£π€£π€£
πx
I'm hoping to get abducted anyway I fancy a change of scenery I'm feeling adventurous π€£π€£
Well done. I expect itβs cooler up there.
It was , feel.pretty.down , I wasn't abducted who would have thought aliens were picky ,π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
That realy is a good sign. I hope things continue to improve. Enjoy the view up on the roof. β¨ππ
Won't be going up on roof tonight maybe tomorrow βΊοΈ
Do take yr time when walking and going up the steps.x
I Will do I trust nothing at the moment π π x
Slow motion, and deep slow breathing .. as im sure u know ))
Don't think it helped because I came down twice to do something for my dad , and four flight of stairs is a few πΉπΉ
Crikey! I wonder if u could give yrself a 2 hour undisturbed break, regardless of dad..unless he falls.if he has a drink + what he needs in reach.you have to put yrself first at times xxxx
He calls me for some stupid things like he thinks he needs his nappy changing but doesn't or he wants me to pick something up he's knocked down oh the list is endless ππ
You really do need to take yr break, recharge yr own energy. I'm sure u sort him 1st.2hrs isnt much to ask for.yr ill,and time to rest is a necessity.xxx
I wish I could have time for myself I know I need it but his attitude is his needs are greater , he won't accept any help from anyone else and gets quite nasty verbally if anyone else tries to step in he was the same when he was in hospital he demanded I gave him food I changed his nappies regardless to proper staff were willing . I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place βΉοΈβΉοΈβΉοΈπ
