COVID test

Why can’t they open more test centres . I don’t live in a sprawling country area. So this morning I have to get my brother to drive me 24 miles. Have my Q tip test then drive 24 miles home. 2 hours for a 2 minute test. But I suppose it’s needed as I have to go into hospital for a plural infusion on Tuesday.

You can order the PCR test by post, I ordered mine Friday it arrived yesterday, I did the test, put it in post box, got my result 9.00 this morning (-ve)

That's quite far away,I don't understand why you have to drive this far to get your test done. I would have called the community health services, the one you get your shielding information from, to find a better solution for you. But, well you on your way now, best wishes 🌺🌺🌺

Maybe get in touch with them for future information when you have to go testing.

I was told that as my admission is at the same hospital it would be quicker 36 hrs

I am wondering if they had a Covid Team that were able to come to you. They came out to me to do the PCR test last Saturday for a Sigmoidoscopy in hospital the following Tuesday. If it happens again it is worth asking about, your brother may not be available to take you next time.

I had to travel to an Oxford hospital, an hour way due to traffic, for a test prior to lung function test at my local hospital 10 mins away.

That is a long drive. Had a pre-hospital day admission test on Saturday. No cars in the car park and I was the only person who walked into the test centre where at least 10 people were sat or stood doing nothing. This Test & Trace thing is a £37bn bad joke. Massively overstaffed in some areas and few resources in others.

Yes you can order one by post and do it yourself - but some people might not want to which is fair enough.

Incidentally the ten staff waiting for work in the test centre told me the test result would take 3 days because the labs were so busy.

In fact it came back 12 hours later - so can't have been so busy.

Sorry to hear you have to go so far for test, sadly this test is the norm for any admission. For other puposes you can have a postal test which you have to be able to do yourself. It seems they have no alternatives even for the very ill like yourself or the elderly frail . Best wishes hope they can do something to lower your pain .

The organisation at times seems ludicrous. I live in a fairly rural area yet I am within 5 miles of two. Yet to have both my vaccines I was forced into a forty eight mile round trip for both. My wife is due an operation in August which no local hospital can provide due to covid. So she was asked could she get to Kettering which is an eighty mile round trip. Which we agreed to because there is at least an eighteen month wait in hospitals nearer to me.

How did Tuesday go, mick5?

It went quite smooth. Drained slightly over 1ltr which is the max without staying in over night.
