Hi folks, have been waiting 4 months for a Consultant appointment and over 5 weeks for an oxygen assessment. Is this normal? I am in Scotland.
Many thanks

What's normal for Scotland may be different entirely for the rest of UK
Even before covid its not unheard of to wait 6 months for a specialist consultant in my local hospital - England UK south.
I would say it depends on your local hospital. You can always check with your doctors and ask if there is a possibility if he/she could check- say ( if you are ) willing to take an appointment at short notice should there be a cancellation.
Best of luck.
Hi Mag, I am waiting to, for my oxygen appointment it's now quite a while ago since the nurse has done that, wait I actually check LOL just saw she done it on 17th May, so it's a month now, so I would say it takes this long or longer. Consultant, I don't have this problem. But also don't need to see him, I mostly write email to my Nurse he works with and she will let him know that I want to speak with him, and she let me know when he will call me to have a chat.
I to live in Scotland 😅👍
You take care 🌺🌹🌹🌹 hopefully you get all sorted!!
I waited six months in England before the pandemic ......got the date wrong and missed it by accident . Warning to others, check and recheck.
I think that it depends on which hospital you are served by, their staffing levels and urgency. Here in Southampton, my hospital is a University teaching hospital. Normally it takes 4 weeks from being referred to attending the actual appointment. There are many consultants to each discipline here.
I'm in England but last year waited 4 months for an oxygen assessment. When I was referred to a consultant for assessment of my COPD in 2016 I waited 6 months. I would imagine that waiting times are longer now given that few services seem to have resumed normal service since the onset of the pandemic.
Hi Maggity
As others have said waiting times in normal circumstances can be quite long .
Due to Covid , the NHS is dealing with cases regards priority. Covid protocols in all departments plus redeployment of staff into other areas is also slowing process.
It maybe be worth asking the professional whom refered you if you are ‘ priority’ , and to stipulate your health just now.
I’m in Scotland too.. it’s. Bonnie day hope you enjoy it .💐
Hi Magitty, I only had to wait about a month for an appointment, then my POC arrived a week later. Lovely Croydon has a lot of problems, but the hospital seem to be coping well. I hope you get sorted soon.
Thank you everyone, checked up after getting phone number from GP. It seems they have put my oxygen assessment in with consultants appointment. I am still on the list but they couldn't, or wouldn't, give me any idea where on the list I am.Thanks again 😄
I waited 6 months in Mid Essex to see a consultant for the 1st time and get a diagnosis.
