When people with bronchiestasis have a exacerbation are they prescribed the normal rescue pack, or one of a longer course?.

Rescue packs
Bronchiectasis exacerbations require 2 weeks of a high dose of the appropriate antibiotic. Oral steroids are not a treatment for bronchiectasis unless the patient also has asthma or copd.
Unfortunately I have all 3 conditions and hard to know what one is the culprit for infection
The guidelines say antibiotics and oral steroids for an infection when you have all three conditions. It isn't a question of which condition is the cause of the infection. The infection is caused by bacteria or bacterial secondary infection following a virus, which has onvaded your lungs. Because of the type of damage to your lungs the steroids together with the antibiotics are deemed to be the best treatment fir you. The damage that I have with only bronchiectasis would not benefit from oral steroids and needs a good blast of antibiotics. I hope that helped.
I have bronchiectasis and asthma and my rescue pack is both antibiotics and steroids. Two weeks of both and top ups if needed.
I usually have 10days-2wks of an antibi tic, not steroid though.
Bronchiectasis needs at least 2 weeks antibiotics for infection.i have steroids too, which i take when needed, vagaries how long for according to how i am
Although I get 1 weeks (and steroid which never use) I always have to ask for 2 weeks. Last time even though I asked only got 1 week. Think it should be 2
Hi I am prescribed 5 days 500mg amoxicillin and 6 x 8mg prednisolone for my exacerbations. Bronchiectasis, COPD and Asthma
If you have bronch you should have 2 weeks abs. They are treating you as though you only have copd and asthma
Hi I have had it since 2014 but gps always say speak to your consultant as its complicated. Typical get out for them
They only have to read the guidelines. GPs know nothing about bronch.
You are right there.i asked for a spacer with a mask for inhaler and he questioned that
My GPs also hopeless with things like that and with flutter devices. Bought my own from amazon
I get my acapella device from my respiratory nurse at the hospital as docs said they wont fund it
They cost pennies! I really do think that you should change your GP. Actually, my main relationship is with my consultant and her team at the hospiral and it sounds as though this is the way to go for you.
Usually a 14 day course of antibiotics . If no relief after 7 days take a sputum specimen in to check you are on the right abs to treat the particular bug.
