NHS performs climbdown as all GPs must go back to offering face-to-face appointments

The NHS has done a u-turn and is now saying that face-to-face appointments must return after pledging to discourage them as lockdown loosens.

GPs were told under new guidance that family doctors were to continue the ‘total triage’ system that was introduced at the start of the pandemic.

Hi 2greys, Wow that was a quick U-turn, or was yesterday’s Daily Mail article yet another kite flying exercise by the Government?!

No, it was in other newspapers as well, including in the right wing paper The Telegraph yesterday, which I did not post for the reason that it is behind a paywall.

The climbdown story is in The Telegraph, the headlines show that they reported it.

My gp practice has a triage system , and has offered face to face consultations all through these lockdowns .I have had two such consultations plus one remote , and a text consultation with an offer of pulmonary rehab.

Much better than having to sit in a crowded waiting room .

I think this has opened up an opportunity for more online and/or telephone consultations, but only where they are appropriate. I can't say I relish sitting in a waiting room with other ill people but, if I felt it was necessary to get a proper diagnosis, then I'd do it. But discussions about juggling medication for 5 different chronic illnesses could probably be done equally well remotely, and might even free up GP time for patients who need to be seen.

It was a relief to read about the climbdown yesterday in the Telegraph.
