A Southampton-developed healthcare app that helps people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) manage their condition can speed up recovery after hospital admission and reduce flare-ups of symptoms, a newly published study has shown.

COPD is a common respiratory condition and one of the top causes of hospital admissions each year, particularly during winter months. In the UK it accounts for over 140,000 hospital admissions and one million bed days at a major cost to the NHS.

At a time when fewer people are able to access face-to-face consultations with their GPs and elderly patients with conditions such as COPD need are shielding, these are very encouraging findings for the future of digital health services.

The app looks really good, but it doesn’t seem to be available to the individual yet only organisations, unless I am reading it wrong?

I have the app but only because it was offered following my PR course - it is quite good.

I have had the app for several months whilst on trial.

If I had been able to access this when first diagnosed my journey with COPD/Asthma would have been so very much easier.

I would recommend it to everyone.

I have this app and have had it for about 2 years my hospital trust trialled it on 2,000 patients who attended pulmonary rehabilitation. The trial was obviously a success because I had a text from my doctors to say that the local ccg where rolling out 2 apps My Copd,My Asthma & My Diabetes and if we were interested in having them to contact the surgery.
