Good morning and welcome sincere

So sorry for your diagnosis. Chances are both your grandfather and your father had/ have Alpha1 as it is hereditary, if you have children they should also be tested for alpha one.

Here is link to BLF pages about it (also don't hesitate to contact the helpline)

blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...

There is also alpha1.uk

Dedicated specifically to alpha 1

Do contact bl f helpline for additional support if you are residing in the Uk

I’m an alpha ZZ stage 4! How much do you know about your own diagnosis? Have you been staged, 1,2,3,4? As regards emphysema or copd. Have you had a cat scan? A pulmonary function test? What meds have been prescribed? You can live decades with this genetic condition!

Hi, I was diagnosed with alpha zz in 2006. I didn’t have any symptoms then, I had an xray after a chest infection. So now in 2021, I have 40% lung function, and at the end of the month I’m being assessed for ambulatory oxygen. I manage to lead a fairly normal life, yesterday I walked for an hour and a half, albeit on the flat, which is all I can manage nowadays! I hope you are getting as much help as possible from doctors, they can do a lot for you. Best wishes.
