CT scan - anyone help with results

Hi everyone, has a CT scan done back in November after been really unwell for 3 weeks. I had a visit to A& E as well. X - ray was clear in the hospital. But I asked my GP to send me for a CT as I was on the list for one anyway.

The results are in the photo- 6mm I'll defined ground glass, which they say mist likely to be infection or inflammation. Repeat CT in six months..

I probably more worried as my health is just so up and down since. I was exhausted after walking or a busy day in the house. I have been dignosed with severe asthma and broncitiasis which my GP says my symptoms shouldnt be from the bronchatieas.

Havent been given any further medication and haven't seen my specialist since February 2020..

If anyone has advise I would appreciate it, and I'm trying not to worry..

Look at the positive your X-ray was clear, ground glass opacity in CT scans just are common and just indicate a chest infection of some sort. Hence the follow up scan in 6 months. Asthma and bronchitis can leave you feeling exhausted, I have Aspergillosis and COPD and can only walk a very short distance and can no longer do all the things I used to do. So I look at what I can do rather than get depressed over what I can’t do. Keep positive and try not to worry

Find it strange though if it's a chest infection of some sort that no extra medication was given. Had three weeks of steriods and one course of antibiotics before the CT. Surprised I was given more antibiotics.

My GP won’t prescribe antibiotics without blood tests to confirm if infection is bacterial or viral. And they tended to leave things as to see if anything developed. If you don’t feel better keep checking with the GP or your asthma consultant if you have one

Thank you.. ya they are slow to prescribe anything. No chance of seeing specialist at the moment, but I might ring our asthma society..

Your GP needs to go and take lessons in bronchiectasis. No wonder you are feeling lousy. Two weeks of the correct antibiotic in a high enough dose should be started at the first sign of a bronch exacerbation! You are walking around with one, confirmed by ct scan and yet your GP is treating you as though you are a normally healthy person who 'may' have a chest infection. I call that ignorance and dereliction of duty.If you have a bronch consultant call their secretary, explain the situation and get them to sort your GP out. This is your health and quality of life we are talking about. We bronchs have to be very pro active in our own interests and vociferous in sourcing the right treatment. Hold that GP to account!

Thank you for your reply. To be honest I was baffled by her response. She told me that I have mild bronchatieas si I shouldnt be having symptoms unless I was having a flair up. I was very sick for 3 weeks end of September/October hence visit to A&E where they told me chest x ray was clear. I organised my own CT as my public consultant said I hadn't had one in a while. Our whole health system is on hold here in Ireland no appointment with consultant since last February I'm struggling daily since I'd say I could count the number of good days on both hands.. i just feel ignored and simply told you'll need a follow up CT. Frustrated..

I'd actually forgotten I had 5 days of steriods and a course of antibiotics again on the 30th December..

Obviously I’m no kind of expert but it sounds quite positive. The ground glass thing is not uncommon. I had that show up once but it was gone by the next CT. The nodule hasn’t grown. If there was anything sinister they wouldn’t be leaving it for six months. Good luck.

Ditto.thats how i read it too teenieleed.Mellypad - a bad infection in lungs does take a while to recover from,as it takes time for resulting inflammation to settle.if yr managing to walk,day of housework etc,id not be too worried

Ru using a spacer/aerochamber with puffers?what treatment ru on for asthma?

Concentrate on yr breathing,keep lungs clear and stay active.sounds like yr doing well.put a sputum sample in,to ensure infections cleared if yr anxious

Thank you for your reply. Some days I am managing a flat 2km walk, but some days I'm exhausted after it. Very frustrating for a 44 year old to feel exhausted after a small walk. I am on Relvar and Incruse for my asthma and in the summer anti histamines and singular.. I go through loads of ventolin a year, too much.. I have a phone appointment with our asthma society on Monday so I will tell her everything that happened over the last few months and see what her advise is.

As thear seems to be some sort of infection and you are still struggling i would suggest you go back to your gp and ask about more antibiotics. People with bronkiestasis often/usually need at least a two week corse of antibiotics to get rid of a infection

Thank you. Yes still struggling on and off. Very breathless the other morning on waking having to take extra ventolin last few days. I might give GP a call or our asthma society to see what they suggest.. its awful having to fight for treatment.

Having to fight for treatment makes one feel much worse. The only consolation I can offer is that I spent most of last summer feeling awful with a chest infection that never seemed to clear up and made me feel exhausted for much of the time. In September it started to clear and I suddenly felt well for the first time in months. My GP sent me for an x-ray which showed there was still infection in one lung, but I felt fine in spite of it. I hope this will be your experience too - hang on in. But get a proper course of antibiotics. ( I'm another bronchiectasis person. People on this forum know more about it than a lot of medical people.)

Thank you. I'm pretty much unwell all the time too but hopefully this year might be a bit better. Is there any particular antibiotics that you would recommend, she never really knows what to give me.

The antibiotic which worked for me was CoAmxicillin. Clarithromycin works for a lot of people, but I had an allergic reaction to it. We're all different. Good luck. I hope the better weather brings you better health. Alberta xxx

Rang my doctor today, she gave me Doxycycline Teva for 5 days, and to take 2 x ventolin morning, lunch and night for the week. Fingers crossed it works flattened the last 2 days.

Update- after feeling really crap last two days I rang my doctor today. She has put me on a course of Doxycycline Teva for 5 days. And to take 2x ventolin morning, lunch and dinner for the week. Fingers crossed. I'm down for appointment with specialist for April so please God that happens. Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond.
