Morning Rosebud, Most of us have been Prescribed the Oxygen by a Consultant, so we do not pay. My Portable was prescribed by the Respiratory Nurse. You can Contact the Helpline Admin., (right hand side of this Page). Good Luck. XXX C.

If you have had a oxygen assessment by a respiratory consultant/nurse and it has shown you need oxygen at home, it will be prescribed and free of charge. If you haven’t had an assessment it would be advisable to ask your GP/consultant to arrange one for you. If you have been prescribed oxygen cylinders and find these too cumbersome to carry when out, the portable oxygen concentrator may be easier so you would need to discuss with your consultant/GP about getting one prescribed

Hi Rosebud19983, yes providing you are a UK resident and already have been prescribed oxygen by the NHS, contact your respiratory nurse or specialist providing you are suitable for a portable oxygen concentrator (POC) these normally differ from your home oxygen concentrator or bottles, which are continuous flow until turn them off, whereas the POC will probably be Pulse Dose, these work by detecting your pulse then providing oxygen.

If you are found suitable for a POC by your oxygen nurse, you will be provided with one, this can be taken on holiday with you in the UK, but NOT abroad!

I hope I have been some help.

Ian.

So who prescribed oxygen for you, and who stopped it. Which area do you live in?

As Hacienda mentions, discuss your need with your consultant or respiratory nurse.
