Next week booked an appointment with blood test, which should identify the oxygen in lungs and function percentage. I am overdue with spirometry test for various reasons. Relatively new to communicate in asking alternatives. Many thanks 😊

There is no alternative blood test for spirometry* measurements. To measure blood oxygen levels its an arterial blood gas test which is usually carried out at the hospital by referral from your GP or respiratory specialist.

In UK routine tests are not generally being carried out at this time.

the other way to measure blood oxygen levels although not as accurate as the arteriel blood gas test is with an Oximeter. You can purchase these yourself if you feel you need to keep an eye on this.

Its going to depend which country you are currently residing regarding the procedure. Best check your own GPs web pages for further details about appointments and blood tests.

*you may find this page of interest regarding spirometry:

Here the page about blood oxygen measuresments: blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...

You can learn a lot from BLF's webpages. blf.org.uk/

Best wishes

I had my "Blood Gases" done recently from my Ear lobe. to Measure the Oxygen level (Low) & The Carbon Dioxide Level (high) if you are a retainer of 02. Hope this helps. Done at Respiratory in Hospital xxx C.

Yes Carino capillary blood gases with the blood taken from the ear lobe are the standard way of assessing O2 saturation levels and acidity balances, they can also be done at home as mine are and arterial blood gases are rarely done unless in an acute setting at the hospital as they are very invasive and need to be administered with a higher degree of nursing skill.Unfortunately for the poster the only way to measure lung function is via spirometry but being new to the way things work i imagine they are somewhat confused by the whole procedure?

Hola Carino, Yes Correct, Difficult to understand when its your first time. I went to the Hospital as requested by Amy, when we both knew I was long overdue for blood gases due to my C02 spiralling too high. The lung Function couldn't go ahead at that time. Hope your ok, along with Scruffita taking each Day & making the Best you can. Any news from Chicitin. ? Abrazos y Mucho Besos. Xxx C.

Muy Bien that you have heard from her. I did consider her Studies and of Course Lock Down. I think it's a "Long" Covid she is suffering from, I hope she can get through this and get to see the Munchkins & Her BBF soon. Give her my Love Please Carino. XXX C.πŸ’–πŸˆπŸ˜˜
