After so many good things happening lately with this young man ... I decided to take him to a new vets for a second opinion...
When he was bitten by the other dog at his old home the other dogs teeth ripped his shoulder muscle which in itself was bad but on and off Stanley has had what I would call incidents where he trips up on the side where he was bitten.
old vet kept saying it was bruising so I went somewhere else for a second opinion and he has had a full head to toe check up ...turns out he has nerve damage in the right shoulder due to the bite hence the tripping up
...the old vet was saying it was a limp but it wasnt he went down from the middle of his right leg as it buckled under him ..I knew it was more than bruising anyways we are now switching vets as they are more switched on to his needs and they dont charge stupid money ...no changes in what we have been doing with his walks etc just if it happens pop him on the lead and crate rest when home..
Hes on metacalm which I have reduced significantly from the dose he was on when I first got him so I will just up the dose if he has a bad day and he is on golden paste which is helping so onwards and upwards ...
Apparently hes in fine fetttle for an old man I covered Stans ears at that bit he dosent need to get big headed over such comments πππ

What a great idea Bb8 to get a second opinion. Older animals need lots of extra care and Stanley is certainly getting that with you. Nerve damage is very plausible poor old fella.
He looks very alert in that photo.π
Lots of life in the old boy yet. Bless him. πππππ
Aww thankyou Carol he is very alert which is why he looks and acts younger than his years ... The walking with us is building wasted muscle back up which is great
I'm so glad you got a second opinion, at least it has but your mind at rest. He's a lovely animal. Have a good night and take care π Bernadette and Jack π xxxx
Thankyou Bkin I'm just glad I went off for a second opinion from somone else...The last vet charged a Β£100 just for a consultation that was before diagnosis check up or meds being given ...rip off π
I registered my oldest dog with the local vet but when he was taken ill during the night I had to get my grandson up to take me 11 miles to their out of hours service ! For that reason When I got my second one I registered her with the local dogs trust , a short taxi drive away and offers 24 hour service and I have to say the service so far has been excellent and much cheaper ! Iβve also recently discovered ,on line ,a company called Animed which supplies prescription meds cheaper than vets. I havenβt had prescription meds from them yet but I did get a treatment for a uti for my girl that worked after two doses π
Ah bless him. So the former "let's rip you off" vet has had his services dispensed with. Glad to hear it. Anyway YOUNG Stanley is in fine form apart from this nerve damage. Let's hope it heals. Don't tell him, he is looking great on the photo. Getting big headed would not be good for him. Anyway look after yourself Stan and yer Mum Blackbird. ππ
Ah cant quite get over paying a Β£100 for just walking through the door before anything happens daylight robbery...Hes very modest in himself noticed himself in the mirror other day and went for himself barking like a right numpty ...
Hope your well in yourself and keeping safe with Teddy πΎπΎπ
I'm so pleased you took Stan for a second opinion. He's looking as if to say hi mum. Hope he improves soon your loving care will make a big difference. Take care Stan and look after your mum. β€οΈX Holly
What a great photo of Stan the Man, and a great story with a happy ending. What a relief you got a second opinion and have changed vet. I had to phone the vet today about one of my sheep. It's so stressful when one of our furry family have got something wrong. I hope Stan will do much better with your new vet π₯
Thank you. Yesterday I had to describe my sheepβs condition over the phone to the vet. Today I had to give my sheep an injection! Iβve never done that before π€’ Sheep have really thick skin, not easy for injecting through. My poor sheep was much braver than I was! Hopefully I donβt have to do that again for a long time, Iβm not sure who it was more traumatic for, me or my sheep!
Aww you have done brilliantly for your sheep you do what you have to for your furry friends..I do hope they get on the mend soon..Stanley's laying at my feet at the moment snoring away ππ§‘
Itβs ridiculous how some vets seem to think they can charge what they like. Good on you getting a second opinion. Stan definitely looks a happy chap xx
He has a brilliant carer in you Blackbird. Heβs a lucky lad is Stan the Man. Bless his cotton socks I hope all goes well with his new vet. Hug for Stan please ππ¦΄
So glad you switched vets, he us a wonderful dog and needs special treatment. Changing subject slightly, that's what we should do with our Drs if they dont perform properly....it makes such a difference to you if you are getting the right help/support. Saying that I'm lucky with mine, but constantly read about others that dont. Have a lovely day with delightful Stan ππ
So happy you have found out what wrong with your faithful companion. This is my faithful companion especially through this past year and through lockdown. We would do anything for our dogs
Thankyou ever so much I'm glad you have company to get you through the lockdown π§‘π
I wish him a speedy recoveryπ₯° he is a very lucky dog to have you. First vet sounds Terrible ! So glad you took him for second opinion . Your pictures of Stan the man are adorable, he is picture of happiness ππ
It is concerning that vets like this exist. Stanley is lucky to have such a fantastic owner, the previous one does not deserve a dog or any animal for that matter. They are a privilege not a right.
Think you made the right decision there BB and it sounds like he needs all the help he can get, although I think as you say the walking with you will build his muscle up better than anything else. Lots of belly rubs for our Stan eh! x
