Yes I found my email when I went to bed last night. I wondered if it was genuine but it definitely is. Don’t know why it was sent so late and so unexpected? It says we must honyo a pharmacy and that they have to deliver our prescriptions for free but Boots told me. Couple of days ago that the only way they will deliver my prescriptions now is for £55 for the year and that includes the whole household. Maybe they don’t know themselves? They have a prescription ready for me now so we will see how that goes when I call them at 09.00am......

Makingmebetter profile image
Makingmebetter in reply toGlamgran18

I use an app to order my prescription which offers a delivery service from my local chemist (not Boots), so wonder if this fee will apply to all chemists after lockdown is over.

Yes I received one last night from Matt Hancock. Extremely short notice for letting work know that I shouldn’t be going in for 4 weeks!

I don’t know what to do for the best as my company is in construction and will remain open during the 4 weeks lockdown. I just returned back on Tuesday after being off ill for 2 weeks and I don’t get paid so I need to get back to normal. It’s a conundrum to know what to do ☹️

I have just received an email from the Dept of Health & Social Care advising me to stay away from shops, etc.

It reads:

On 31 October, the Prime Minister announced new national restrictions to help control the spread of COVID-19. We are writing to you because you have previously been identified as someone thought to be clinically extremely vulnerable and at highest risk of becoming very unwell if you catch COVID-19. This letter contains important advice on how to protect yourself and how to access further support.

Coronavirus cases are rising rapidly across the whole of the UK, and that is why, from 5 November until 2 December, the Government has taken the following action:

Requiring people to stay at home, except for specific purposes.

Preventing gathering with people you do not live with, except for specific purposes.

Closing certain businesses and venues, like hospitality and non-essential retail.

The new national restrictions are rules that apply to everyone and which everyone must follow. The full details of these rules can be found online at gov.uk/coronavirus.

In addition, the Government is issuing new guidance to clinically extremely vulnerable people. This is set out in the following pages. Whilst this is not a return to the very restrictive shielding advice you may have followed earlier in the year, you are strongly advised to follow these extra precautionary shielding measures to help keep yourself safe. This remains advice, not the law.

You should stay at home as much as possible but are encouraged to go outdoors for exercising and attending health appointments. You are strongly advised to work from home. If you cannot work from home, then you should not attend work. You may be eligible for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (furlough). This letter is a formal shielding notification and can act as evidence for your employer to show that you cannot work outside your home until 2 December, including for statutory sick pay (SSP) purposes.

The new national restrictions, and this specific advice will apply across England for four weeks up to Wednesday 2 December. At the end of this period, we expect to return to guidance that is specific to your region, based on the latest data. We will write to you again with further information before then.

Please remember that the NHS is open, and we urge you to continue to access all the NHS services that you need. It is safer for you to use the NHS than to try to manage alone.

If you are concerned about the impact of COVID-19 on your health, speak to your GP, hospital clinician or use NHS111. Further information on how to access help, including how to register for support, can be found in the attached guidance.

We know that this is a difficult time and many people are making significant sacrifices. Thank you for your efforts to keep yourself and others safe.

Yours sincerely,

MATT HANCOCK

Yes got it around 9.30pm last night, obviously government couldn't really make up their minds if people were vulnerable or not this time, someone has obviously pushed them in the right direction, very late notice to tell work though when you start at 6.30am I forwarded the email to a manager this morning.

Mrbojangles profile image

I’ve just had mine via email.

A lovely gentleman who tells me to take real good care and to phone him if i need any help or guidance.

What was really sad was his young son is so ill and can’t afford school books or a computer so i have sent £500 to help his family.

He also told me his Aunt is due to leave him £1000000 in her will but needs £750 to pay the probate lawyer.... i am off to the bank later to do a transfer.

He has told me as soon as her money comes through he will come around and repay me and also do any small jobs around the house.. totally restored my faith in human beings after all these recent tragedies!

You all stay safe now.. xx

Having said that I am (as previously) following advice.

ArtyParty profile image
ArtyParty in reply toBevvy

Hi Bevvy! Yes, I am aware of this...myself, I have gone above and beyond the government's advice; my husband and I started our lockdown/shielding 2 weeks before the last national lockdown in March as we could see what was coming! Have only left the house since then half a dozen times - and two of those were for emergency dental appointments and one for flu shot. Stay safe and take care!

I got mine last night and was wondering initially if it might be a scam, but it seems genuine enough - has my hospital number on it and my correct name. I was expecting a letter so an email came as a surprise.

I appreciate it is short notice, but at least it says it is an official notification that can be used to show employers that you are officially shielding which must be of help to many people. As a retired person, I will just show it to my other half to explain why I'm doing bugger all for the next month! Hahaha!

Yes I received mine last night via e-mail. I had previously heard Matt Hancock say they would be writing to all on the CEV list and I did wonder as it is supposed to be only a 4 week lockdown how they would get the letters out so quickly. It was re-assuring to read in the letter that those with Priority supermarket delivery slots would still get them as they are a lifeline to me.

Take care everyone and stay safe xx

I received mine at about 7.30 last night, strangely I also received a letter of my respiratory specialist yesterday, informing me one of his team would contact me for a telephone appointment next Tuesday, I’m not due to see my respiratory specialist until February/March next year, so maybe it’s just because of the lockdown.

Stay safe everyone.
