What did Boris say about shielding?....

Evening everyone.

Did I hear right about shielding during this lockdown.... Did Boris say to stay home if we are unable to work from home? I know he said to be vigilant and not to shield as before, but did I hear right that he said not to go to work?

Still depends on what Tier you are in.

Summary

Boris Johnson announces a new four-week lockdown across England, starting from Thursday

Bars and restaurants will close, but takeaways can continue to operate - as in the spring lockdown

Shielding measures will not be re-introduced, but vulnerable people or those aged over 70 are told to be especially careful

Schools and universities will be kept open throughout this period, unlike in the lockdown earlier this year

The current surge in the virus has seen the UK's total number of positive cases pass the one million mark - it now stands at 1,011,660

One model, seen by the government, forecasts up to 4,000 deaths a day during the winter months no action is taken

Over the past seven days, the UK has averaged almost 23,000 new cases a day, and 237 deaths with coronavirus

Thank you, I’ll check gov. tomorrow 😊

Yes you did hear right. But he did not say anything about payments to cover living costs. Just like last time.

I thought I heard him say stay home.

He said the furlough scheme would be extended until December 3rd.... hopefully that will cover some costs 🤞

in reply to Lynnetp

Yes but furlough wasn't set up for people shielding. It was to stop unemployment.

I guess if we are lucky enough to have decent employers they should put us on the furlough scheme...

Hi Lynnetp,

I heard Chris Witty say that 'shielding had been a mistake during the initial lock down'. Very confusing or my hearing is bad. I only heard him say work from home, if you can. If you can't and are in a priority job, you have to go to work, but be very careful!

Incredibly contradictory🤔

Hi Anng18,

Confusing and contradictory are perfect words for all of this!

I guess all we can do is read & follow the guidance and await our “extremely clinically vulnerable” letters to see what our next steps should be 🙈 x

Don’t make it easy, do they?! The best advice to come out of all this was the hands/face/space mantra, because it encompasses the scientific approach in the most simple terms; everything else should be seen as mechanisms for achieving that.

If you keep that approach in mind, you can’t go far wrong (though there can never be a guarantee of absolute safety); in fact, if everyone had adopted this approach, we wouldn’t be having this conversation!

Absolutely right!

If everyone did as they were asked & continued to follow guidance, we would not have the increase in cases like we have now 🙈
