What is it called!!!!

I had my face to face contact with my consultant today, (she is lovely). I have had a CT scan and heart monitor, she has mentioned that PERHAPS there would be a possibility of having an operation on OONE of my lungs to enable me to breath more easily Today she said she wanted to do some more breathing tests and dependant on the result, she would refer me to Brompton for this procedure (I can't remember the name of the op!!) Off I went to do this breathing test, I had to have "170" don't ask me what that is!! but I only got 130. She did say I could try again in 3 months. I have no idea what all this means and stupidly I didn't ask her. Has anyone ANY idea what all this means? She is phoning me next week re. the blood tests she ordered, so I will ask her then. Do I have to get worse, or better to achieve the 170?

Sorry, all this must sound like gobbledy goo lol, but maybe one of you knows what it means.

I would only be guessing of course and the best person to ask is your doctor when she phones next week.

Possible the op name could be LVR (lung volume reduction) surgery, and possibly the 170 is you need 170% predicted residue volume lung function to qualify, but as I say I am only guessing.

Thank you so much Bkin, yes I am sure that is the procedure, but having read the criteria, I doubt very much hat will qualify,😢

Perhaps just wait and see what your doctor says, you can't take what I or the link says as written in stone in your case, only your doctor knows fully, try to keep an open mind till you discuss with your doctor. Hugs x

Hello Woofly, 👋

I know of four procedures for COPD (if that's what you have), a Bullectomy where they remove sacs of air that may have formed in the lungs, lung transplant, lung volume reduction surgery, and Endobronchial valves. So it must be one of these ?

Please do make a list of questions for when she rings. I hope you can be a candidate for the operation. Take good care.

Hi Woofly I have to redo my test as it's been a while since I had some of them done and the op is a LVR. Good luck 🍀 with your tests. Have a good day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxx

Hello Damon, When you say "I have to do my test again" are they thinking of referring you for LVR? were you told you had to have this mysterious 170? lol lol and what did you get? Does this mean you have to "get better" a little before achieving 170? mine was 130. Perhaps we can share info!!!

Some of my tests are out of date so I have to do them again before my referral. Yes they are willing to do the op. Have a good day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxx

Hi Damon, have you any idea of what your tests were?

Yes I had echo cardiogram, scan, and two different breathing tests. Have a good evening and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxx

Hi Woofly I found and copied the below it is part of the criteria for LVR and it mentions the 170% in the last section, it seems to be the degree of hyperinflation.

 1. Consider whether LVR is a plausible intervention, based on the following criteria:

   FEV1 < 50%

Still limited by breathlessness (typically MRC breathlessness score of 4 or 5)

   Ex-smoker

Able to walk at least 140 m in 6-minute-walk test or incremental shuttle test

 2. If yes, offer a respiratory review to further assess whether LVR is possible:

Lung function shows hyperinflation (plethysmographic RV > 170%) and TlCO above 20%

Hope that helps. x

Thank you so much Tia, yes it does help a lot, but of course I have no idea really what it all means! I will ask the consultant if she can tell me IF there is any chance at all for me to have the op. Thank you again.
