Over the weekend, the World Health Organisation made an announcement you might have missed.
It recommended children aged 12 years and older should wear masks, and that masks should be considered for those aged 6-11 years. The German Society for Virology went further, recommending masks be worn by all children attending school.
Worrying because our Government has a habit of poo-pooing the WHO suggestions and nearly each time we've side stepped and accepted their findings and lost out on a considerable amount of time etc.
Very interesting, 2greys. My grandchildren go back to school soon and their Mum has asked me to make more masks for them so they can have a fresh one everyday to take to school. However, their school is not yet asking for them to wear masks! She is preparing for the day they are suddenly told they have to have them - which I'm sure will come sooner rather than later.
It is a worry that the kids are all going back to school together, but it is necessary. Our grandchildren have all been so good since the schools closed, but for many families it must have been a nightmare, especially regarding childcare for those who still had to work and awful for those in small or poor accommodation, or in situations of domestic violence or poverty.
We will just have to watch and wait, I think, and be careful around all children.
My son his a specialist registrar -was all set to return to school where I work when he said I was absolutely stupid and putting myself at unnecessary risk.
Since he never voices an opinion in such strong language and having had no contract from Scholl re any precautions put in place am now rethinking my position
It doesn't help when govt advice is unclear and appears to contradict and change as often as our weather.
On BBC News an expert stated children are not a threat but then states they will have a 1;5 chance of transmitting it. Maybe they do not think a 20% chance of passing it onto their Grandparents is a risk anymore?
Balance that with this, someone is clearly wrong. "Doctors ( plural!) at the Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC have found that infected children can spread the SARS-CoV-2 virus for weeks even though they themselves show no COVID-19 symptoms. That means that children with only mild symptoms, or none at all, can unknowingly infect people around them."
Asymptomatic children can carry coronavirus for weeks, study finds.
I fully understand how we need to keep our children educated and get into some sort of social normality (New Normal) But I still feel masks should made mandatory outside! I am one that would be exempt from wearing a mask but on the odd time I go out I will always wear one!
