Only if you let it I think. I am on 24 hour oxygen and have a concentrator indoors and cylinders for going out. I persuaded my nurse to prescribe a portable concentrator which makes it easier to go on longer car journeys, and I can change to cylinders when we arrive. Going on to oxygen is not fun, but it does make life more comfortable. Of course if your activities are cycling or sailing or something like that it would make life much more complicated. I wish you all the best and many good years to come xx

Thanks for your positivity.

I’m to have oxygen assessment in the next t couple of months.

I’m getting breathless, more, due Cas can’t understand why. Am to have a face to face appointment in the next 6 weeks.

Sputum teat etc, to se if I have an infection as well as the ongoing NSIP.

I was thinking about asking for a portable. Concentrator, thanks for the info

I hope it helps. I am on 24 hour oxygen as much for the pulmonary hypertension as the lung diseases, which is currently stable, although it has left me with pulmonary fibrosis. I suspect the stability is probably only temporary but at the moment I am not due any consultant appointments unless my GP thinks it necessary.

Thank you.

I am. currently struggling with Non. Specific Interstitial Pneumonia.

I’m increasingly breathless on any exertion.

The pain over my lungs has increased and morphine does nt help any more.

The consultants can’t underst why I am detioriation so quickly..

They are getting me a face to face appointment ASAP, but by July anyway.

Sending me for oxygen assessment.

Sputum sample has gone,it sounds silly, but I’m hoping there’s some sort of infection there,in addition to the one I’ve already got.

If there are s infection, perhaps I can get a bit more function back.

Thanks for replying,much appreciated

I hope they can help. My lung diseases are bronchiectasis and obliterative bronchiolitis. The latter was probably caused by the drug I was prescribed for atrial fibrillation. AF was caused by congenital heart disease. Good luck x

Pete’s not on oxygen Chalky but I like to think it would mean that his organs were being protected and he was being helped. Speak to your GP/Nurse too or phone the blf helpline on 03000 030 555.

Take care xxxxx

Absolutely not Chalky, think of it as the begining of a new life, when with the aid of oxygen you can do almost all of the things that made you breathless recently and start to enjoy life again. Just takes some time adjusting to life with a little helper in a machine or cylinder. :)

I have oxygen while out and about (until lockdown) I have o e that makes a slight noise when breathing did at first with noise and canula etc. Feel as though everyone was looking at me but you get used to it. I dont feel as though the equipment indoors and outdoors stops me enjoying myself. Have Fun.x

Hi Chalky, I have been on Oxygen 5 years now, Concentrator in Doors, Mobile for when going out, maybe one day soon? Couldn't live without it. It is my Life Line so to speak. Sleep with it on, and when the Sun comes Back I'll have it on my Mobile in the Garden. My Oxy Pal is always getting up my Nose. Enjoy your Oxygen, It is Vital for you to carry on Enjoying Life. xxxx C.

I hope not! I have been on it for a while now (and feel better for it).

I am not on O2 but, I have asked quite a few physicians and pulmonologist about oxygen. Well for one thing, you are breathing oxygen now...all 5 believe that the numbers should be higher than they are now for oxygen usage...and they prescribe it...all believe 88 is way too low for kidneys and hearts. Patients an oxygen for exertion as well as 24/7 ....usually have lower rates of heart disease, better blood pressure...kidney function better, and they have lower cancer rates. Of course it goes with out saying you must have checks for being a retainer...which you can be without oxygen, too.

Oxygen is not the end. Many people are on oxygen for decades...and some are very good golfers!! That I can attest too...one gentleman has named his portable concentrator....Bogey.....

Greetings

home oxygen is just another valuable tool in the toolbox of keeping you comfortable . I started on ambulatory O2 in 2008. Over the years, my need for oxygen has crept up. I'm now using it full time. Between cylinders, concentrators, portable concentrator and logistical management, I still get out and about.

I've lumped my Cylinders up Caernarfon castle's towers, round stately homes, through France ... no, Chalky, oxygen isn't the end -- it's a new beginning which needs a bit of advance planning. Enjoy your new freedom!

Hello Chalky2 , 🌿🌻

No it's definitely the start of the beginning, a different kind of beginning and an adjustment in lifestyle, but no where near the end of anything! I do however, understand your feelings, I remember crying myself to sleep on the first night after I had my cylinders delivered. But they really were a Godsend, and remember the oxygen will provide your vital organs with the oxygen your lungs are struggling to provide naturally. So take hope, there are so many of us here who have benefited from home oxygen therapy. Take care.
