Pulmonary fibrosis secondary to Covid?

Does anyone have any knowledge of this or know anyone who is experiencing the same or had PF secondary to any other atypical respiratory virus (SARS, MERS etc)?

Interesting article - thank you 2g. I sat next to Dr. Aliberti at the 2016 EMBARC meeting at congress and he was present at our smaller afternoon meeting for patient priorities - bronchiectasis. Very proactive doc from Milan.

I have a CT Scan in 4/5 weeks time, I am 99% certain I have had Covid-19, so does my Oncologist. I have been having untold respiratory problems since, I now have another nasty chest infection. I hope that Fibrosis is not another respiratory problem, if it is I will let you know. I will be letting the Radiologist know that I have had Covid-19, so can look for any associated problems. I will let you know late August after I have discussed the results with my Oncologist.

Sad to hear you’re having so many problems.

Take extra care of yourself

I assume you (or your relative?) had ARDS.

I had ARDS and was left with some scarring on my lungs which was to be expected given the severity of my (bacterial) infection and the subsequent inflammatory response within my lungs.

The worst part was the unknown. It took some time to establish what had happened and if it would improve. My lungs looked bad on the CT scan around 3/4 months after I was discharged from hospital. Around a year post ICU, they saw some changes and damage but nowhere near as bad as they had done around 8 months earlier.

Respiratory physio and improving my mobility played an important role in regaining some strength.

Hope this was somewhat helpful. Willing and able to help any way I can and if you have any other questions.

Take care.

Sorry don’t know why I didn’t respond to this.

Yeh he developed ARDS secondary to Covid. Previously fit and well, no respiratory problems.

Yeh that’s what I’m hopeful for that one 6/12 months we see lungs looking in better shape.

Do you still get restrictions in your breathing? Where would you say you are now in terms of lung function, mobility, QOL? I appreciate these are broad terms. Feel free to PM if this is better for you.

I just feel helpless atm and want to be best equipped to cheer my Dad up that things can and will get better.

Not what you're looking for?
