I cannot run without gasping for air

Hello,

I am new to this website.

in 1998, I was diagnosed in Ireland with Bronchiectasis and a couple of years later, this diagnosis was contradicted in London, saying that I didn't have Bronchiectasis!

My concern, is that I am unable to do Cardio excercises, like running without gasping for air after 1 min.. I can never get past it.

I would love to have some suggestions if anyone is experiencing the same issue.

Thanks,

Alice-D

Hello,

Really you need to get proper diagnosis. For accurate advice try blf.org.uk/helpline.

We can give hints and friendly help but it sounds like you need real help.

I agree you need real help and a correct diagnosis, I would go back to your GP or consultant and get a definite diagnosis. Please let us know how you get on, have a lovely day and take care of yourself 😊 Bernadette xx xx 🌈

Thanks Bernadette:)

This is normal for me, although I can manage about 6 steps running :D I don't try it very often as I know my lungs don't cope well with running or even prolonged brisk walking, you can improve your endurance and fitness levels though even without running with regular exercise.

Contact the London Hospital again regarding your tests results - what was their diagnosis?

Hmmm...... If you had testing as far back as 1998 then I would suggest you go and get tested again. You mentioned you cannot do cardio, this sounds like something recent? When did it start? What sort of shape are you in? If you are a regular runner and now start to feel something is off, you need to get it checked out. Do your oxygen levels drop on exertion? Do you get breathless bending over? Do you get breathless when your stomach is full? There is just too little information for us to say much except go and see a lung consultant. Do it soon.

Best wishes to you and welcome to the group. 👋😄

I have been told 1/ yes you have bronc , OH no you don`t, about 10 times and now I got really hacked off and asked for a letter for my PIP.

I got a letter saying Bronchiectasis/emphysema/ COPD and being treated by the Bronchiectasis clinic.

I can walk on the flat a bit BUT absolutely rubbish going up stairs and funny enough coming down stairs, mind you with my wonky legs coming down the stairs it's a case of...one two miss a few.... .

I would, and did, keep chasing them to find out what is going on.

Have you ever had a CT scan as that is the only way that Bronchiectasis can be diagnosed.

I have had a couple of scans, not sure if they were CT scans.
