Hi, my hubby has idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, there isn't much information about his condition, only that it is a terminal illness. We are currently shielding due to this and my query is do you think we will have to continue to shield until a vaccine is found?

Shielding and getting back to normal
We don't know Missymare - the latest I've heard is shielding until end of July, but that could be extended. Why not give the nurses on the BLF helpline a call to see what they may advise you.

The most important thing is you both stay well protected at this time no one is out of shielding, its still not safe.
Keep well both of you.
Thank you for your reply.
Hi there Missymare. I have just watched today’s briefing where shielding was mentioned in one of the questions. Apparently, there is just too much infection in the community to make any changes just yet. They are going to develop a pathway for us and see if they can put in more help.
From that, I take it that we will not just be let loose, but we will be given little extras we can do over a longer period of time.
Hi Missy
I have advanced intestinal pulmonary fibrosis and discovered a foundation for IPF full of advice and help, I have been given a few months to live, but will not let this beat me, my wife and I have been self isolating since the beginning.

Hope this helps

I think you have to use your common sense about it. Looking at all the figures the infection rate has not reduced much overall so I personally will continue shielding until such time as it drops dramatically, despite the hardship of seeing no-one.
IPF is different for everyone. I was diagnosed three years ago and have remained relatively stable, just an annoying cough!! My consultant says dont read about it and he has a patient he has been seeing for ten years !!
