How do you all cope with extreme breathlessness! I find stopping and waiting til I can breath normally again is best but any tips would be appreciated

I use pursed lip exercise while I rest and get my breath. Hope this helps have a lovely day and stay safe 😊 Bernadette xx xx 🌈

Pursed lip breathing with inward count shorter than exhale. Breathing out first before breathing in is something to remember.

The rest and recover then continue is a good option :)

Exhale through pursed lips as long as you can , you should be able to inhaile much better ( and thus getting more oxygen into your system) after doing that. Focusing on one thing should help as well as this will help to stop any panic that rears its ugly head , hope this helps .

I breathe in, count to three if I can, then breathe out. Gives more time for lungs to exchange oxygen for c02. If I do this I recover more quickly,. I had 6 one to one sessions with respiratory physio who taught me that. She was also keen me practising holding my breath. And counting the seconds I could do it. Also make sure you’re using your diaphragm muscles not upper chest.

Hi Looseloafers , 👋

I see you have some great tips already but I thought I'd add , using a recovery position is something I used to do. The one leaning forward with arms in table and head in arms helped me a lot to calm down and catch my breath. Also those small hand held fans were a godsend. I just blew it in my face and very soon I felt calmer and could get more air. I never went anywhere without it and used it when I had to do housework that made me very out of breath.

Hi Cas thanks for the reply. I dont panic but hate that I can’t do the things I always have done without gasping for breath 😡😡😡

I know. But it's part and parcel unfortunately. It's important not to get too frustrated because it will make breathing worse on top of all the stress. Pace yourself friend. Be kind to yourself. xx 💕

All of the above plus walking, the more we exercise the better we breathe
