I've had couple of NOT so frequent occasions where I get sudden sharp stabbing pain on bottom of my right rib and it last about 5-10 mins. The pain gets worse when I breathe deeply and I can feel shortness of breathe. But the pains completely goes away in 5-10mins and I feel relieved and can take deep breathe easily. This has happened to me may be about 3 times. Is this a symptom for Pleurisy?
Edit: Thank you all for the comments and well wishes. I should have mentioned I am a non-smoker, reasonably fit in late 20s and do not have any other health conditions and constipation/cramp might be the case. But I'll keep recording these occurrence and report to my GP will let you know how it goes.
You dont say what your underlying health problem is.
I sometimes get pain all the way accross under Bob's makes m feel sort of sick and shortness of breath. It has happened to me quite a few times have mentioned it to my consultant just wants me to keep a record of it but now in lockdown.
Really hard to say. What lung disease do you have? I know when I had pleurisy the pain was constant and nothing I did relieved it. Infection can also cause pain as can a good number of other issues. I hope it goes away soon. Take care.
Could your intercostal muscles in that area have cramped? What were you doing immediately before the pains started? If you can't answer that right now and it's an on-going problem, try doing a simple symptoms and actions diary to see if you are doing a similar thing before each occurrence.
You could phone the BLF helpline nurse tomorrow when the office is open again, for a more expert opinion than ours.
There are many reasons for that - some might be serious (so check it out) but it can also be something less concerning constipation - as the bulk pushes on the body (I think diaphragm but don't quote me) and therefore lungs! Although constipation can be serious, especially if you have limited mobility , but sometimes you just need prunes.
So yes definitely do check it out , but also, if possible, don't worry that it's the worst case scenario, until it is!
My partner gets a sharp stabbing pain at the base of the right rib occasionally, usually after bending forwards. They don't have any lung issues unlike myself but do have gallstones. Other than the occasional pain they don't cause any other issues but it may be worth mentioning it to your GP. My partner had a simple scan to detect the problem. May be worth considering as my partner was told they are a common problem.
Yes I get them as well and not just on the right side. Anyway difficult to tell what it is. I am in a pulmonary rehab class with about 20 of us all copd. There are only 2 or 3 of us that get this and you are right it is painful as hell. Doctors can't say what it is either, so welcome to the world of WHO KNOWS.
I got this just last night as the most recent time and it was due to me laughing a great deal at the comedy series Still Game. Very painful, other times when not caused by laughing it can be cramp. I have severe Stage 4 COPDby the way.
Hopefully it is nothing severe in your case, I wouldn't worry too much about it if it isn't constant.
