I had a chesty cough for 2 weeks and shortness of breath, had course of Penicillin V, no better, then course of Co-Amoxiclav 500/125, no better, followed by trip to A+E, via 111, who diagnosed Pleurisy just over 2 weeks ago. Started to feel a little better last couple of days, but today it's back with AVENGEANCE! Can't get comfortable at all, sitting, standing, or lying down. Painful all the time, and just when I think I am getting there, a sharp pain and/or a cough for good measure! What can I do? Have Codiene 30mg and 200mg Ibuprofen recently but makes no difference. All right chest, back, armpit and boy is my nipple giving me some grief. Coughing folds me in half! Any ideas would be appreciated

Pleurisy can take a while to settle. I had quite a few episodes over the years. Rest and a gentle heat over the worst area tends to help me. I use a micro wave heat bag. Also holding a pillow to your chest when coughing may help the severity of the pain.
Thank you. Tried the pillow thing but putting my head towards or somewhere near my knees is better, hence the folding in half. Pain relief is no good, whatever I have tried. Will try to get a heat pad, sounds favourable. Something I read said shallow breaths may releave it, if I breath any shallower, I won't be!
I use a hot water bottle to help with the pain in my back and lungs.sometimes it helps. Perhaps you could ring the GP surgery in the morning. Hope you get. some sleep.
