There are two categories: 1. at risk/vulnerable and 2. at high risk/extremely vulnerable because of severe illness. Only people in the latter category are “shielded” & asked to stay indoors for 12wks. They can (theoretically) get food parcels, someone to collect prescriptions & priority for online delivery slots. If you are in that category you should get a letter from NHS England, or your hospital/GP. If not, I’d contact your consultant’s secretary or your GP.
Thanks for replying I've done everything you have suggested & still nothing even called supermarkets direct & asked if I could register with them directly and can send or scan any documents or letters they need as proof of my situation every one told me sorry but they are unable to do that & either hopefully I'll be contacted soon or they have to wait until the government send them my details I'm going crazy
Ps also, register here gov.uk/coronavirus-extremel...
Thanks Hanne, two of my friends have had the NHS letter , but didn’t know how to get help with shopping , prescriptions .
I have texted them the Gov UK vulnerable link. Thanks.
Two of my daughters have instructed me to contact my GP , because of my dodgy lungs, limited walking ability and long term steroid use .
I registered as extremely vulnerable on the Government site, and then yesterday I got a message from both Tesco and Asda saying they had notification about me from Government and offered me a weekly slot for home delivery and I was able to choose which supermarket which I did straight away. I am now getting a weekly slot right up till October 4th. Hope we are not forced to stay in for that long
Wow that's great must be a big help
I have seen so many people now that have all had at least one email from any supermarket to get a slot which is why I'm now getting desperate as I'm registered as extremely vulnerable and high risk have received letters from government, NHS , local council,
Social services, my GP & hospital was told already on the government's register but registered my self anyway just to be sure & nothing the earliest I can get a delivery is 4th may
I've done everything I can think of emails calls written letters to each supermarkets but theres nothing they can do
Just glad that I seem to be in a minority and that thankfully others in our vulnerable situation are thankfully being helped x
Fingers crossed you will get the same email I did in a day or so they must have hundreds to work through so don't give up yet. I wish you well
I got an email from Sainsbury’s 2 weeks ago telling me to ‘book a slot’ but there aren’t any! I’ve tried daily without any luck. I’ve been offered a food parcel but I declined as I do have people that can pick up bits but I’d like to do a ‘proper’ shop. Btw. I’ve had 3 letters. One doctor. One NHS. One government. I’ve also had a phone call from my local council. I did have a click and collect slot booked with Asda 3 weeks ago but 2 hours before due to collect I received a phone call to say my order had been cancelled. I was a regular click and collect shopper too with the same weekly slot. No apology, no nothing!! I’ve tried getting a home delivery with Asda too but all fully booked. I didn’t realise they had a priority list, I’m wondering how to get on it? Stay well, stay safe. Joy x
Sorry to hear you are also having this frustrating back & forth to try and get just 1 shop as you've been told under no circumstances should you leave the house and are reminded regularly with letters ,emails and texts but it must be worse for you as to actually get the email to say you are on there priority vulnerable delivery list and to then have same problem you had without it crazy and also have a slot cancelled did you email asda and ask them for an explanation especially as your a vulnerable person
Hi Georgina, I didn’t email Asda to complain I thought they’d have enough to do at the moment but I will let them know how I feel/felt in due course. I was very upset! I woke early this morning and managed to grab an Asda delivery for Saturday. I looked again, out of interest, a few minutes later and there was nothing left! I must have tried just at the right time as there was lots of availability at 5am. I’m happy now. I’ve got family that drop off bits as I need them but there’s nothing like ‘browsing’ and doing your own shopping albeit on line. Joy x.
Thank you and the same to you, if we all stay safely indoors this horrible thing may be over soon, xx
