Got my confirmation.

Had a call from gentleman to confirm I was who I was. He then said did I have any problems mentioned Sainsbury say i am not vunerable. Then got a call from city council to check I was ok. This came half an hour after I spoke to gov.uk. this was all yesterday afternoon. This morning got a knock on the door to a young gentleman holding a big box of food vegetable fruit biscuits. Lots of little goodies. Then checked my emails and decided to try sainsburys and I am know a vunerable customer and can do on line shop with delivery.

Now it's now trying to book that elusive slot for my groceries to be delivered.

At the moment they are up to 22bd April and all booked up.

I am so very happy for you that you got some goodies 🤗🤗🤗 but 22 of April is a long time.

I don't know where you live in UK, but we have here a campaign that's called ViralKindness

Those are volunteer, I had a card through my letter box, they offer pickup shopping, posting mail, a friendly phone call and urgent supplies.

I found this great and helpful for people that can't go out. Don't know if that available in your area, but just Google ViralKindness and u get in it. Maybe helpful. Best wishes, keep safe and well 🌹🌹🌹

Sorry I mean that you can try to find out in your community if there active with this campaign.

There as been nothing in Leicestershire so far. I belong to a local support group and everyone reports hearing nothing from local council or government.

I have just spent 30 minutes looking for a council helpline for those shielding. Absolutely nothing.I think my wife and I will be waiting a long time for any help.

Manchester City Council put out a message to say that the local councils now have a hub to help people with shopping, collecting prescriptions etc , try phoning them to ask if your area has the same 0800 234 6123 x

We are very lucky in the west midlands. We are still getting weekly general rubbish pick ups and fortnightly recycle our lord mayor has been good at keeping to his word

We have plenty of local volunteers. Bins are being emptied except brown garden waste bins. But no help shielding with regards to food etc. I do not particularly need help but there are a number around me that do. I have been passing names to local volunteer coordinator. There are a number that do not have computers, internet etc.

I received a Voice Message from Nottingham City Council Yesterday to ask if I need their service for any Needs I may need ( I have Registered), Food being the first Priority. if so, I was to call them back. As I don't need to use their service as of now, others will need them, especially People on their Own. A Good Service from our Local Council. Stay safe. XXX C.

Luckily our daughter is picking up things for us. Leaving them on the doorstep. It rides us over til we can get a slot.

Did she manage to book on line? Or did slots come up during the day.managed to do bit of a shop at iceland they release times during the day will only keep it for for about 30 mins which is good. Stops people who are NOT vunerable isvpeople like us and older people. Sure a lot of slots are held by people who dont really need them. There had my more rant.( just tried sainsburys/Tescos and morrisons dont deliver by us too far away

At first Sainsbury were e-mailing vulnerable customers to let them know when priority slots were being released, but due to sheer volume of customers they've stopped doing that. If you haven't managed to find a slot for same week delivery, keep checking back as slots are being released on a daily basis at random times to cope with the high demand.

I tend to fill my basket with the items I want and if a priority delivery slot isn't available, I save the basket instead of proceeding to check out. That way when slots do become available I can get one before they're snapped up.

Spacecat1 profile image
Spacecat1 in reply toMichele-Cat

Yes my basket ready to go like you say just have to keep trying. Someone mentioned the app may help so going to give it a go.

Sainsbury will email you once a week telling you when slots are live.

Usually you can book a delivery very quickly once you have had your email, both my delivery's have been booked Monday and delivery Tuesday.

Hope you get sorted.

It is good news when you get your confirmation, but the large supermarkets are struggling. My freind went to Sainsburys and she came back home as it would have taken two hours just to get in to shop. Went next day and it was normal. I can't go shopping for more than one reason but found it very difficult to get an online delivery . Hopefully it will get easier as people slow down on panic buying. Good luck.

Yes hubby popped first to Asda he said the queue was horrendous said he could see it moving. Said gave up and drove round to sainsbury and guess what another queue. Decided we had enough food to last so in between carry on trying to get slot on line. Hubby texted to say on the way back so I could distancing myself. Left bag in porch ready. Disappeared into laundry area to get changed making sure put things in washer ready to go. Next job he back tracked himself with wipes wiping over things he had touched.

I got another letter reminding me to follow the first letter I got and not go out at all. Another hamper arrived but same food as last week and some tins are a bit big for one person on their own. But it has all the basics which is more than some are getting. I could share with someone else but guess thats not allowed. Does anyone remember how to make chocolate rice crispy cakes as I have a big bag of cocoa pops and rice crispies. ? Lots of apples and oranges too so I might make a fruit salad to preserve the fruit longer. It is very time consuming trying to keep things clean and get shopping ect. My prescription arrived with five more repeats for the coming months. Before we know it it will be another year gone. Have a nice evening speak again soon.

Spacecat1 profile image
Spacecat1 in reply tokatieoxo60

Yes had the biggest tin of mushy peas I have ever seen. Hubby said will be making mushy pea sandwiches. There was a good mixture.

Does the next box come on the same day.of the week.?

Take care.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toSpacecat1

Not necessarily. First was a Saturday, second Friday but whats in the box is similar. As would Tesco say every little helps. Another problem for very vulnerable is there house cleaners ect cant attend as usual any ideas on how to clean up mess more easily after spillage ect. ?????????? especially if you can't bend, I use a garden kneeler in the house. another help is one of those steaming mops they are lighter to lift. These problems are due to health issues not laziness :)

Spacecat1 profile image
Spacecat1 in reply tokatieoxo60

Yes every little helps. Made up a casserole with the carrots and potatoes and chicken we had left in the freezer and usual bit and pieces from the cupboard and when cooked managed to make 2 casseroles put in freezer so some meals for the table as said every little helps.

good news- Hooray I was able to go onto Sainsburys yesterday as a vulnerable person yesterday. I started on my phone and then carried on the lap top site WHERE DELIVERIES BECAME AVAILABLE. I chose one for next week as we are ok for this week. Local butcher is delivering a meat pack today . You may need to click on check out first. Apologies if others have solved the problem . I haven't read the other posts yet x Anita

Someone suggested their app which I did. Lots of slots came up but no good to us. But do come up. But every so often it has a blip and dosent recognise me. I uninstall and it's ok think get hubby to work out what's going on

Spacecat1 profile image
Spacecat1 in reply towatergazer

Yes plenty of slots on the app.

jamorro profile image

You could try downloading the Sainsburys app. That may give you better access to delivery slots. We had trouble getting a delivery slot despite being regular customers. Then downloaded the app and had several slots available. That worked for us. Hope it will work for you. I’m still waiting to be acknowledged as vulnerable by Govt.

Letter comes from nhs. If you are registered extremely vunerable.the form you fill in at gov.uk goes through system as far I can see with mine. Ask at your gp first if you are registered as extremely vunerable

I have severe COPD and 75yrs young. The web site is for England I live in Wales. Dont know why as we are all I

If you ring number on sainsburys website and when you ring it will ask you to hold on if you live in Wales. After that not sure what happens. Might have to hold on a while.

PS Mushy peas can be used to make pea soup as well as high in protein, I got prunes in a family size tin this week . I do not have a bowel issue . And Mushy peas or any peas are not suitable for some illnesses. when you get your pack you can have mushy peas & chips. A lot of this food is very much vegan just like pasta & tomatoes. There is no spread for your sandwiches, no sugar for tea or coffee. But if truely needy you would eat anything wouldn't you ????????????
