Interested in opinions of this from Dr. Rupert Read, whose back story is different to Richard Horton, being a spokesman for the Green Party and and Extinction Rebellion spokesperson.

"We the people" - another angle on the crisis
Should’ve, could’ve, would’ve? We need to move on for now and get through this. It’s called closing the stable door after the horse has bolted so we’re now trying to catch the horse!
Stay safe Jean. Thanks for posting. Xxxx
What I find excellent about this is precisely the way "we the people" have taken the initiative - that shows citizenry at its best. Love and safety to you Carole
Here here Sassy x
i can see your point sassy, but the trouble is that we are not merely trying to catch the horse. we're trying to move ahead in the best way possible, and for a start that means a lot more truth and honesty from the powers that be.

Sorry I’m not getting into any debates, political or otherwise. Life’s too short.
Stay safe xxx
But Carole, almost everything in life is 'political'. By using that word I'm not meaning party-political though. What I mean is that politics is about power, who has it, who doesnt, who is affected and who can or can't change the problematic circumstances they find themselves in. In saying this Im not meaning to disrespect your decision not to involve yourself in a debate, just trying to clarify where Im coming from to avoid misunderstandings. Hope that's ok xxx
I'm not interested in conflicts between political parties.
But I am interested in everyone pulling together, this is a survival thing not a political one.

Check video 'when can we get back to normal'.
Not that I ever want the petty bickering between political parties to get back to normal, that is something as a nation we need to get over. Its not about any one person or political party its about the entire country's wellbeing, working together for the highest good for all.
Stay safe and be well.
Actually I think it's both Bkin, but I know we dont agree on everything But the way the people have acted and actually preempted the government in their own survival is impressive.
I think its very closed mindedness - we need to see the bigger picture. Its not just about petty politics, its global catastrophe and we all need to help each other achieve survival, that has to come first.
Who are you saying is/are closed minded Bkin?
I agree of course about the global situation which is why I thought people, you maybe, would like this vid from a spokesman for XR, and the Green Party.
But while its global, individual governments have the power to improve the situation or to wreck it. So they are not insignificant.
I think its very closed minded to be bickering petty politics attempts at agitation in a time of crisis, we don't need any one fighting each other verbally or otherwise, bringing another down in order to achieve lime light for themselves, that is very closed mindedness at this time and sooooo self centred.
Each government around the world is doing the best they can under the circumstances.
You asked for opinions and there you have mine.
Whoa!!!
Sorry you feel that way but politics should never be seen as petty, as it affects most of what we do in our daily lives. Unfortunately our survival will depend on political decisions. Hope you are keeping safe and well.
No one is likely ever to agree with one way of thinking, but at this time it is to our advantage collectively to be focussed on the best we can do. Attempting to take advantage of a situation that is life threatening to many to bring another down is just not the way to do it.
fortunately we don't all have to agree with you bkin. there are many ways to skin a cat, and whilst you should obviously concentrate on the way you think is best, that freedom means you should allow others to get on with doing things they way they think is right, whether they agree with you or not.
It actually was 02Trees who was asking for opinions, not myself, so perhaps your opinion should be shared generally and not directly at my reply to 02Trees.
If it was going to be a them and us post I would not offered any view at all. (note for future reference)
Have a nice day.
we will never get "back to normal" bkin. if by normal you mean how things were before.
I never do want the political bickering to get back to normal (how it was before) I would hope this crisis would results in greater evolvment of consciousness and understanding how attacking people has never worked but helping people often does.
Yes so many blunders are coming to light. I read that Jeremy Hunt when he was Health Secretary refused permission to buy a large quantity of masks and protective clothing in case of such an emergency arising. South Korea have certainly handled the Coronavirus situation very well using the strategy he describes.
Its dreadful to think that many people will die unnecessarily from this.
Stay safe all,
Corin
Thank you for that. It is very difficult not to politicise the situation we are in, as if the NHS had been well supported for the last 10 years we may have been better prepared. We can only hope sense will now prevail and we will be better protected in the future. The video said it all for me but as l say, we can only hope!
He gathered together several strands of thinking that have been circulating widely and used them to denounce the government’s strategy. The now discredited herd immunity theory was described to me by my scientist son two weeks ago as b***s**t (he simplifies things for his artyfarty mum!). The decision not to test, test, test was condemned by the WHO. I have no allegiance to, or interest in, Extinction Rebellion and I think Greta should have stayed at school but this guy said nothing I didn’t agree with.
All of life is political but not in the party sense. He said that if the lockdown needs to become stricter it will be because people didn’t comply. I was already questioning how a few loonies having parties could necessitate more stringent measures. Answer: they couldn’t, this is catch-up after too little, too late.
