My MOT is due tomorrow 🥴I have mildCOPD, aged70. I use my car to drive to isolated places so that I can have a short walk. Worried because the virus lives on plastic and steel for several days!?!

Hi Felter they announced all MOT's have an extended 6 months until this chaos is over. It was announce yesterday. You can still go out without any worry. Stay safe xx
On the news yesterday regarding MOT :

Your car must be road worthy and properly maintained of course.
Phone the garage of your concerns protecting the interior.
When you pick the car up you can wear gloves, mask whatever makes you feel safer, take straight to the car wash for outside cleaning. Leave the car to stand for 3 days once home. Wash all your clothes dispose of gloves etc.
Just follow all the precautions.
Thankyou🙂
Read that BBC report it says that allowances will be made if you are self isolating. No problem for 6 months

It has been said that driving somewhere in order to have a walk should not be done as it is not classed as an essential journey. I know that in some areas police officers are stopping people out in their cars and questioning their reason. Hope you might be able to walk safely directly from your home.
See recent post re this .
Police will stop people driving for exercise and dog walking.
Saw your post and commented on it. Think police are taking too literally, though took HappyJo's point about protecting the NHS. To take CPDO's point, there is an exemption for medical reasons - it could be argued that someone with a condition which, if worse, would have led them to shield, might be safer taking their exercise in a more isolated place, even if they had to drive there. Otherwise, people such as us with these conditions might feel we had to shield ourselves as well, which would probably double the number shielding and increase the pressure on delivery services and volunteers.
I would be interested to know the scientific and medical basis for advising people not to travel for exercise by private vehicle to more isolated areas
It’s hard to know isn’t it!? I’m hoping that the local police would use their common sense and discretion in this situation. I live in Brighton- it’s really difficult to do social distancing . I’ve been driving for 10/15 mins outside the centre and have been able to find much more isolation.
Thanks- That wasn’t clear to me until today.🙂
You could always tell a porkie and say you are taking your car to an MOT testing station due to it's expiry date but you will only get away with it once.
I like your style!
Two things. Mots have been extended for six months. More importantly, it is not accepatable to drive somewhere to have a walk. If you insist on having a walk just go round the block, keeping clear of others
