I was doing some reading into Coronavirus & Pneumonia given its one of Main mortality issues and all doom and gloom about pre heath conditions

Anyway given pm chat and daft accountant that failed to mention help for sick disabled or pensioners

And fact given am high risk HAVE not been given any formal advice from lung doctors or gp’s APPART from don’t go doctors SO given most gps have looked patients out and failed to communicate that would be wishful thinking

Anyway so thought I would see what health issues predispose me and what I could do

According to NICE 1 million have COPD with a further estimated 2 million undiagnosed. 4.5 million have asthma.

I think it is high time there was a press conference Chief Medical Officer, DWP and Chancellor to give specific instructions to people who are recommended to self isolate or practice stringent social distancing.

They need to spell out for the various groups why they need to take precautions, what they can and cannot do, and what meds they need to have at home to manage their conditions. It would do no harm for the rest of the public to hear this information, to drive home the consequences for those with underlying conditions and the need for the country as a whole to follow government guidance.

It is all fair and well to say GP’s will contact people with specific tailored advice but for some surgeries that might be some time in coming. In the meantime, there is the chance that some at risk people will continue with there normal daily routines thinking they haven’t had a call so must be ok.

The lack of more directed information is quite astounding.

I have taken the self isolating route, but I live with an 81 year old. If I didn’t I might take have taken more risks. Who knows.

Maybe, now that they have sorted out the money side for people self isolating we will get more info, but I am not holding my breath.

So right, this is a mess. They say that the NHS will contact us but not necessarily our GPs or consultants who may have the best record of us. My con wrote specifically this week that I wd suffer respiratory failure if I get this, even without developing the pneumonia but if the criteria for extra 'sheltering' is hospital admissions I will be overlooked because the heavy burden of self management and drugs has kept me out of hospital since 2015.

I will be interested ro see who do get letters.

Morning LP, I have not heard anything from GP or My Consultant, I may do, who Knows. 20 days Isolation. Can't even get an Oxygen Nurse out, been trying for 2 months. Now Hubby no longer working , Pub Closed last Night. He is my unpaid Carer, we may have to claim Carers Allowance? Bit of a rigmarole to apply though. Carry on , do our Best, as we do. Stay Safe Hun. Morning sweetheart. It is so difficult for so many. Compared to many others I am fortunate because I live alone and don’t have to worry about someone bringing it to me. I have to secure my food supply and have just emailed my surgery about med delivery.

I would say just go through the carer’s allowance procedure and find out whatever else you may be entitled to. After all there is very little else to do.

I think that the NHS letters are due to drop on the mats this week. I am not holding my breath because I am almost invisible in the system anyway and to be frank, I don’t want interference or to take up the time of people who would be better helping those who need it more.

If you get a letter it may mean that the oxygen nurse follows. 🤞🏻

Nice to hear you're coping but it all is going to be a lot of change for many, many folk. Then as in your hubby's case, theres the form filling and probably it wont be easy to get advice from anyone/organisation regarding what you can expect to claim and the blooming rigmaroll(?) of the form filing etc etc. You seem to be a very strong woman as you've come through so much as have others on here. This strong "backbone" is what will bring us all through this time of change and uncertainty. I do believe we have an encylopedic amount of first hand knowlege on this forum so if i doubted anything, I'd put it to our members. I must say the thought of weeks of being restricted to indoors is going to test even the best of us.

I hope you and family manage to keep in regular contact and hopefully those cuddles we now miss, can be given in the near future. Stay safe. 🐿💕

I posted it earlier in the week as it applies to so many on this forum. I hope that these authoritative words help those who are having problems deciding what they need to do for themselves, or worse, are battling the woeful ignorance of many employers when it comes to lung conditions.

Last week I rang my GPs my wife needs blood tests every two weeks for advice on how this was going to be done. The receptionist (I live in a small village)said Allan at the present time this will happen but the advice we are given changes daily. Due to the response of the government and the very fluid situation I am beginning to think that Gps are so busy adapting to daily changing directives and trying to provide some sort of service that they at the present have no time to give individual advice to their patients. Basically we have been left in a find out for yourself situation. I am following the general advice from the BLF which I feel is a safe bet and my wife is following advice on her condition from charity supporting her condition. Sadly there are people like my mother in her 90s who have not joined the online age who must rely on the often conflicting advice from the television. I agree more must be done to keep us better informed.

I went for blood test this week the doors were closed, they opened it for me the nurse took my temperature then let me in. They where covered for protection the surgery was empty. usually it's full. I must admit I worried about going but felt better that they did it that way.
