Most people who get a diagnosis of COPD will reflect on their mortality and worry about what the future may bring. I know I certainly did. However you are mild and if you take care of yourself, exercise etc the general opinion is that more than likely you will die of other causes. In many ways the corona virus is nothing new. I am sure other members of the forum will tell that even before these sad times we were all told to avoid people with infections, do not do this do not do that etc. Any infection could have implications for somebody with a chest condition. Yes the corona virus is serious but with precautions you can protect yourself and is just another danger that we need to deal with. Anxiety is normal with any chronic condition and you need methods to help you cope. Sadly the advice I would normally give, like join a support group or join a breath easy group is null and void at the moment. However you can get some very good advice in this group.

I have COPD and Bronchiolitis - have had it since a child,- eat well, exercise, try not to listen to the doom and gloom continuously and watch comedy, laugh and keep positive as this boosts your immunity m. Get fresh air and don’t forget sunlight destroys viruses. Keep a distance from people and wash hands, read all those books you promised yourself, or do the hobbies you enjoy. This will pass - all will be well and the vast majority of us will be fine x

Looking after someone with serious lung issues makes me think about mortality too (a lot) however I think there is a positive side to that - we don't take our lives for granted, enjoy even small victories and joys, and don't sweat about the small stuff (e.g. a sunny day is worth more than a new TV and who cares if the cushions are the wrong colour this season)

You say your disease is mild , so you'll see that there are many people on this site who are living longer than no-illness people as you take care of yourself better.

The virus is more than the illness, the whole world has changed in the space a few months. Everything we took for granted is no longer a given. It feels like a nightmare or apolocolypic to many (including me) BUT, one day in the not so distant future either the virus will disappear or there'll be a corona jab at your local Boots chemist!

We are all alive today, that's what matters!
