US, Germany battle for virus vaccine surpremacy.

The United States and Germany are vying to produce an exclusive vaccine against the coronavirus which is being developed in a German laboratory, Die Welt daily reported Saturday.

According to the paper, US President Donald Trump is trying to poach German scientists working on an experimental vaccine against a global health threat that has now killed some 5,500 people with a view to having an exclusive licence rolled out in the United States.

Such a vaccine would be "only for the United States," a source close to the German government told Die Welt, though Berlin would reportedly is looking to make offers of its own to biotech firm CureVac, based in the German state of Thuringia.

Hopefully the "only for the United States" statement is just journalistic hype. The real interest is with getting a working vaccine.

All sorts of information that ordinary citizens have been unaware of is seeping out during this C-19 debacle, such as the U.S. gets all of its antibiotics from China (I never knew this), and China, having recently (allegedly) threatened to cut us off. This President won't have liked our health being threatened in such a manner. So we can look forward in the near future to all of our pharmaceuticals being manufactured here. In the context of business, owning the right to manufacture a certain product, and especially in the light of the recent threat from China not to allow us to have medication, I can see Trump asking for that. J

My money is on the Germans. However if both parties share information a quicker result may happen. I don't really care if ten nations share the glory for finding the cure. Just that they find one.
