Very Itchy Outer Ear?

I am sure you will think I am going mad but can anyone suggest a possible explanation for my VERY itchy ears!!! It is so annoying, I have tried vaseline, hydrocortisone cream but nothing helps. I cannot think what could possibly be causing it, they (ears!) don't look dry. The itchiness is only on the lobes of my ears, not inside at all. I started oxygen about 3 weeks ago, could this have anything to do with it? Also, my scalp is itchy. I would be very grateful for any suggestions

Could you maybe be allergic to the plastic cannula tubing used for oxygen delivery just a thought ☺️

Hello \\blackbird thanks for your reply, the tubing doesn't come into contact with my ear lobe...... nor is it itchy behind my ear. Mystery continues lol

Ever since starting on O2 my skin has become different. My face and ears - if I gently move my finger nail over it a layer comes away. Finding a moisturiser without paraffin or petroleum jelly was a nightmare. Eventually found Holland & Barrett Dr Organic Vitamin E cream.

Hope this helps

Please don’t use anything that contains paraffin, dangerous, for O2 users, Flammable .I’m in the same boat with the itchy scalp and still trying different shampoos . Hope something turns up soon as with cream for your ears 👂

Morning Joyce, I too have a very Itchy Scalp,(Like pimples on my scalp) Tried different shampoos, still not found the right one. I can only assume it is a side affect of any of the many Different Tablets I take ? If you find one let us know. Have a lovely Sunday Hun. XXX C.

Hi woofly

I get itchy outer ear and a patch on top of head, the head area is due to Bipap strap rubbing , but the outer rim of my ears aren’t effected by that. It’s mainly my right ear, worse when it’s warmer. Sudocrem helps a little but like yourself no idea of actual cause.

Alpecin Hybrid Caffeine Shampoo May help scalp itchiness.

Could the scalp itch be due to shampoo etc you are using, maybe effecting ears too when you wash hair?

Could also be general skin dryness, possibly adding fish oils, omega 3 , vitamin d and E may help.

If you haven’t already maybe see if doctor can offer anything.

Hope you find some relief soon.

Thank you for your reply, I haven't changed my shampoo at all, but I will try

Alpecin Hybrid Caffeine Shampoo to see if it helps, if not I will have to see the doctor as it is driving me crazy.

Any chance you have psoriasis? I have psoriatic arthritis and my ears, chin and scalp itch so badly sometimes I'm afraid my scratching will cause bleeding. I use cortisone cream. It helps for awhile.

I am pretty sure it is not psoriasis..... but who knows! I will ask the Dr when IF I can get to see him!

Do you have an ex talking about you?
