Struck down again and in hospital, got it bad this time nearing end of antibiotics course but not recovered.I am appealing to all you lovely people out there in our community for help as if I can't improve further I can't go home. Please can you help me out with antibiotics you have used for this evil bug so I can lean on my doctor to to persist with treatment. The names of those drugs you have tried and the results you had would be most wellcome. Sorry to say I am feeling pretty desperate but won't go down without a fight and the help of you lovely people out there in hard to breathe land. God bless you all. John.

.Pseudomonas is treated with various oral antibiotics, nebulised abs and several different IV antibiotics, depending on how much it has got out of hand. It is the job of a bronch specialist to decide and prescribe what you need.

It doesn't seem that you have a proper bronchiectasis specialist consultant looking after you. GPs do not know how to treat it and neither does the average hospital consultant who comes across you when you are admitted as an emergency. They get you on your feet but do not get involved with ongoing management and drug regimes.

You need to find a bronch specialist on the internet and insist that your GP refer you as a matter of urgency because they are totally failing to treat you properly. I'm sorry because I know it is difficult when you feel poorly and exhausted but we bronchs have to be very pro active in our own interests.

Just like to wish you well JohnHawk.

Sorry to hear you are poorly and in hospital Johnhawk. Take advise from Littlepom, she knows whats she talking about. At the moment its upto the hospital to test your sputum to see what infection you have so they can treat this properly. I dont think anybody can advise which antibiotics you should be taking. I really hope that you get the right treatment and you get home quickly. Thinking of you x

Hi Johnhawk

I’m sorry you are feeling so poorly and clearly desperate for an end to this. When the cipro stopped working for me I had a two week course of iv ceftazidime and tazobactom to kill off the pseudomonas. I then started nebulised colomycin twice a day to keep it at bay. My doctor is a specialist Bronchiectasis doctor. However when prescribing antibiotics they also take account of the effect they may have on your other organs. I know that one was dismissed as it could have affected my kidneys. These worked for me and I hope they find something that works for you soon.

Out of interest John what antibiotic are you on at the moment? I am nowhere near how unwell you are but I have pseudos in my lungs and have been treated for a long time with nebulizer colomycin. Fortunately it appears to be doing the trick.

Hi John

Really empathise with you so much. Just been in 5* with pseudo +++. I am lucky enough to have a good team and am now back home doing my own IVs.

I assume they have taken a sputum sample to find out what your strain of pseudo is sensitive to. If there hasn’t been an improvement by now, perhaps they should be considering one of the other antibiotics your pseudo is supposed to be sensitive to.

Littlepom is right a lot depends on if you have a good respiratory consultant specialising in cf/bronchiectasis. City hospitals are often better re treatment of bronch than a local hospital.

You really need, and I am sure you will, stress that the medication/IVs are not appearing to be of any benefit and perhaps they should be reviewed.

There will probably be a number of abs which your pseudo is sensitive to but there is no way we could recommend a particular one, or even suggest because we have found it helpful that that will be the case for you. Some abs people find beneficial I am intolerant to. It’s trial and error but you need to be proactive to make sure they know your feelings on this particular ab.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Love cx

Hi there Johnhawk and I see you've had some really sound advice from our members who deal with similar conditions. You are in the best place whilst you are feeling so unwell. If you feel a second opinion or referal to a specialist bronch team would be better, then you are within your rights to discuss the matter with your present Consultant . (Always do it very politely!!!) Best wishes.

You have my sympathy as psudomona is my biggest enemy. I have had a number of treatments but cant remember what they are called. I know one of the side effects was possible rupture of tendons especially in the feet and heel.

ask to be referred . Good luck
