Delivery fee

I only realised yesterday that our local Boots pharmacy has started charging for prescription deliveries to home. We used to walk there in a couple of minutes but not possible now. £5 each delivery will make it too expensive for us as some prescriptions come to an end before others so it would mean for the two of us at least £30 monthly.we are lucky to have a daughter living close by to pick our medications up and she can get there in time on Saturday morning. We had no warning about this. I read about this in a national newspaper some weeks ago. There was also a suggestion that all pharmacies may gradually bring in a charge but as far as I know Boots are the only one to introduce it.

"Boots will continue to provide a free delivery service from its pharmacies for “the most vulnerable patients”, including those who are receiving end-of-life care or where an emergency delivery is needed, it explained (see more on the exemption criteria below).

The multiple introduced an online prescription service via the Boots app and website in May, and deliveries for these orders will remain free."

You can have two deliveries per month for the £5 delivery charge.

I think I’d vote with my feet, but if it’s too near and it’s giving you a good service, you be better-staying withthem.

But I do think it’s the thin end of the wedge.

The onlinebit mentioned below could be useful and it’s free

My local pharmacist still delivers for free....is there another you can contact.

£5 seems a lot to pay, when you think some supermarkets charge less than that for online shopping....pick, pack and deliver.

When my sister enquired about the charge she was told to go in and pay it and then her prescription would be delivered when she said if I've got to come in and pay I might as well pick it up myself the lady behind the counter said that's what everyone says.Apparently you can pay a yearly charge not sure how much though I don't use Boots because I had a lot of issues with my prescription from them

Have you another chemist that delivers we went to our local pharmacy even though Boots only accross the road. They are helpful friendly and prescriptions always on time. They will put tablets onto a pill box for you. If having trouble remembering them. NO CHARGE and helping the smaller businesses on the high street so wrong of Boots to charge. I never shop there is so expensive. Only go in the saled.

Hello , this was publised over a month ago to my knowledge. But was given out before that I understood when enquiring. I don't use Boots but think Lloyds was another one mentioned. There is a free on line service still that delivers to your door, but you do of course have to sign up and allow plenty of time for delivery. This change is very unfair to those who don't have someone to do it for them, but accept costs are going up and once again this reduces the cost to the NHS. So Why did they introduce an electronic home delivery service, if it is not sustainable and shut many local Chemists for dispensing, I suspect a political reason not a patient care reason. Good luck with your new collection method.

You may have to change over to ordering from Boots online, delivery is free there

This is really pathetic, and once one company does it the rest will follow unfortunately.

It's disgusting,I am fortunate I can walk to my Pharmacy,if I am feeling unwell they will deliver.

If all Pharmacy follow suit it would be very hard on the poor people who can't get out.

You can ask your doctor to supply enough of your medication for a month so you have a monthly repeat prescription each time instead of of having individual medication weekly. You might find you will have too much of a particular medication but a few months in you could leave that off your prescription when ordering and then back again until they are all even.

I use an online service called Pharmacy2U and it is free. Delivers to your door. You just sign up online, add the items you need and order them as you need them.

Your GP will be asked by Pharmacy2U to OK your request and when that’s done Pharmacy2U gets the medications sent.

I’m sure the Boots online service will work the same way. (And is also free).

Pharmacy2U will send you a reminder when the next prescription is due.

It’s worked OK for me and saves me time and inconvenience of picking stuff up from chemist or surgery.

Is there anyone who could help you set up an account? It only takes a minute to do.

Not what you're looking for?
