Was admitted into hospital yesterday after a week of feeling very poorly. I have pneumonia on top of my IPF. Not been in hospital since my youngest was born 35 years ago.I also dont take medication apart from the odd paracetomol.I am on intravenous fluids, antibiotics and blood thinning drugs apart from being monitored constantly.I have no appetite whatsoever.I cough so much I cant sleep, lie comfortably and my lungs are so sore I cant see me relaxing ever again!I've never experienced anything like this before, any tips?๐Ÿค’

I do feel so sorry for you, I was blue-lighted in with pneumonia a couple of weeks ago.

The best tip I can give is to drink loads and, if you can, exercise (I know it is difficult whist plumbed in) but the exercise will definitely help reduce the severity and help with your breathing. Your appetite should return in a couple of days.

You might also find that it is a lot easier to breath if you can get out of the bed and sit upright in a chair that will hopefully have a gel cushion with it, you might even get 40 winks in it.

I truly hope that you recover and get discharged as quickly as I did. You are right, it is not a nice experience at all.

Yes, you are in the middle of a very stress full time. Try to stay positive bAingeful, and remember you are getting the right care and treatment and It won't be forever T ake advantage of this time to get strong and I'm sure in no time at all this unpleasant episode in your life will be in the past.

Thinking of you and willing you on to get well again.

I'm sorry to know you're unwell and in the hospital. Hopefully the medication will start to make you feel better soon. It must be a bit of a shock to the system to be taking all this medication if you're not used to taking any but I hope you'll start to see an improvement soon. And maybe get some sleep ๐Ÿคž Sending you lots of good wishes.

Sorry no tips as i have never had pneumonia but fluids and movement seem to be the best advice and just wishing you as speedy a recovery as possible and better times ahead. :)

Best wishes Ski's and Scruff's

Best advice, sit up in a chair with blankets, you will breathe MUCH better and likely get at least some sleep. Please, just do it . ( My last 10 day hospital stay for pneumonia and a critical COPD exacerbation was spent entirely sitting up in a chair). Keep your dobber up, things WILL get better, Best Wishes , judg69

All the best, Aingeful.

You are obviously being taken good care of and just be patient and give it time and follow the tips above.

Take care and hope youโ€™re feeling better soon.

So sorry you are so poorly Aingeful, I echo what 2greys says, make sure you drink plenty of water so when you cough things are easier. The moving about no matter how much you can manage will help. Pneumonia is awful, it makes you feel very poorly and recovery can be slow but the main thing is you take good care of yourself while you are recovering and try to have some healing nutrient foods, even if just in a green smoothie, kale, root ginger, half apple, half banana, and if you can manage some salmon or light fish even. Hope you are soon well enough to go home where I am sure you will feel happier and rest easier and just move about in the warm. Best wishes for you feeling much better real soon. xox

Youโ€™ll start to feel better when the meds kick in.drink loads, sit out of bed of you can and move your legs. You donโ€™t want clots as well as everything else

Thanks all again! I am on meds for clots. I realised they were working this morning when I accidentally pulled my canula out! It was like a blood bath !! X

That sounds quite dramatic! I hope you'll be able to get some sleep (which is never easy in the hospital) and start to feel a little better tomorrow.

How miserable for you. Lots of excellent advice from others. Things will improve, no one likes being in hospital but it is the safest place for you.

My daughter came last night and gave me the most fabulous massage at the back of my ribs/lungs last night. My granddaughters had sent their unicorn hot water bottle! The staff filled it and I put it on my sore ribs. I slept last night for the first time. I hope I'm on the turn around! Hoping I'll soon be off this drip too! X

Iโ€™m glad you managed to get some comfort last night, with a lovely daughterly massage and, best of all, a unicorn hot water bottle ๐ŸŒˆ These treats are worth so much, and certainly help you along the road to recovery.

Hope youโ€™re feeling much better soon ๐Ÿ’•

Wow ! I'm so sorry to hear . In the US pneumonia I dont deal with ,my VA doctor gave me a pneumonia shot so I wont experience pneumonia along with my COPD and ASHMA.

All I can say is I hope you have a great and concerned doctor there.

Remember God is with you dont give up.

I hope you fell better soon! I just got out of the hospital and I feel like sitting up and walking as much as possible helped my recovery. It was miserable to walk around with chest tubes and a suitcase shaped container filled with what was coming out of the chest tubes, but walking kept up my strength.
