Prednisalone and antacids

Omg ,not an ounce of sleep agian last night after first day back on prednisolone, what made it worse was ,as I tried to put my head down the acid would come up to my throat made me cough like crazy ,I all ready have a raw throat with coughing, this is another thing prednisolone do ,reck my stomache even though I'm on the red gastro resistant ,both prednisolone and doxycycline warn about antacids ,I had to take a ranitadine during in the night as along with everything else my stomache was burning,as my first two weeks of treatment didnt work very well I've been trying to keep of antacids altogeather,my consultant once told me not to take omoprazole at all while taking doxycycline, sorry for doing all this moaning ,it not me to be like this ,only havent been well at all for past few weeks,and I am so fed up with it all ,I'm just looking at the prednisolone, I will have to take the six agian now ,on top of a already bad stomach, I will try something to eat first ,really dont wont to take them ,but i must if i wont to get well ,i would appreciate any ideas of what i can take for the acid ,thanks for listening good freinds

Maybe you could try Gaviscon, it forms a barrier that keeps acid and bile in the stomach, where it belongs. If you're getting really bad reflux, a dose after each meal and another one at bedtime should help. Ask your doctor if you can give it a try though as it's quite expensive to buy - especially if you take it three or four times a day. Hope it works for you, reflux is awful - and damaging, good luck👍.

Can you ring your local pharmacist or health professional and ask their advice when they open today

I was given omeprazole the last time I was prescribed steroids and doxy at the same time to help protect my stomach.

I have to eat something first , before I take steroids or ABs, and I also find sips of milk help with the acid. But check with a professional.

I find standing up when I take the pills helps too....a GP recommended this to me. Walk about a bit, be careful not to squash your stomach by bending over , and by lying down for a while.

Go back and see your doctor again. I can't take prednisalone. When I did it made me very ill. Acid stomach, bruising, hair loss from head but started a moustache, weakened my bones and compromised my immune system. Believe it or not I didn't have lung problems when I was prescribed it. Now I have.

I'm not suggesting you will react as badly as I did but you do need to get this sorted out.

Hi, Alice sorry to hear how you are suffering. I would see your GP and ask whether you could have antacid tablets like omeprazole. I always have my breakfast and take my antibiotics and never take them on an empty stomach and also drink lots of water with doxy as they make you feel sick otherwise. If your GP can prescribe the omeprazole I think that will definitely help with all the tablets.

If your GP won't prescribe antacid there are a few 24 hour release ones you can buy at the pharmacey.

I found it helped lying a bit more upright with a hot water bottle on tummy helped and sips of water. And maybe a ginger biscuit may for some reason it dise with me. My problem I seem to get an itchy rash when I have to take these tablets. Odd but it's only the bottom half of mu arms.

Swallow loads of water when you take them 👍

Always take Predisone with food preferably after breakfast and at least a full glass of water. Hope this helps. I am like a 2yr when on them. xSheila
